I am also a Puga. I've found that there is a town in northern Spain named Puga. The name Puga means "thorn" in Galician which is the language of our ancestors. This meaning can be taken as "sharp, or smart".

it means "tip of the spur" (look at the crest); the story is that the first of our line went behind the enemy line to get water for the king...

Apparently the last name Puga has it's origins in spain, Galicia, to be exact. In the 1500's Pugas spread out to the Philippines and Peru and to the US in the 1800's. We also made it out to Mexico, given that that's where my lineage derives. I am from Nayarit, Mexico, where, yes, there is a small ranch named Puga. Not quite what you'd imagine though and i dont know much about it either.
