Surnames: PUFFER, AGNEW
Hello, my grandmother was Elizabeth Puffer from Ontario Canada and married to James Agnew. I too have a copy of the Puffer Genealogy and can trace my family back to George Puffer married to Elizabeth Sedley in the 1600's. I would love to know more about the Puffer Family especially the family history in England. I believe they lived in a town called Hartshill in Warwickshire in the 1500's. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Barb: My gr. gr. grandmother was Julia Puffer of Ontario. She married Michael Moran. They, in turn, moved to Michigan. Does your Puffer book make reference to her? Her father was Cornelius Puffer. Any info. appreciated.

Hi Jim, nice to meet you. I looked in my genealogy book and found a Cornelius Puffer, who was born in 1793. His parents were Simeon and Fanny (Turner). They both died in Cramake, New Castle district, Canada.
Does any of this sound familiar? What dates do you have?
Hope this helps.
Barb

Barb: Thank you for your reply. Here is what information I have on Cornelius Puffer. He married Elizabeth Carl. A daughter, Juliana (my great, great grandmother) was born in 1827 in Cramahe Twp.; Northumberland Co.; Ontario. Juliana married Michael Moran of Brighton Twp.; Northumberland Co.; (neighboring townships) in 1850. Sometime between 1853-1856 they moved to St. Clair County; Michigan. Juliana died in 1863 giving birth to my great grandfather, Henry Patrick Moran. If you can add anything to what I have, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks a lot. -Jim-

Hi Barb,
I am doing research on Puffer's in Canada And U.S. My grt grandfather was John Wesley Puffer. He was born in N.Y. and was the son of Asa Puffer. He was married in North Crosby, County of Leeds, Canada to a Margaret Cornell. John's brother was Isaac, Who, I believe, was the father of Elizabeth, who married James Agnew. He also lived in North Crosby for a while. Is the book you are talking about by Charles Nutt? Would like to share info. Thanks Maureen Walker

Hi Maureen, nice to meet you!

Yes, the book I have is the "Puffer Genealogy by Charles Nutt". My ggrandmother was Elizabeth Agnew (formerly Puffer); daughter of Isaac and Jane (formerly McQuay); son of Asa and Charlotte (formerly Strickland). Do you know anything of the Agnew side? Do you know the name of the town or exact location in North Crosby, Co. of Leeds, Ontario? Thanks for any info you may have! Take care. Barb

Hi Barb,
Well it looks as though we are related! My grtgrtgrandfather was John Wesley Puffer. The Nutt book lists him as Wesley. He was indeed killed in the Civil War in the Battle of Perryville, Kentucky. I have only found the information out about North Crosby, Leeds County, about two weeks ago. It was then I received information from the NAtional Archives in Washington, D.C. John's wife, Margaret(Marietta) had a hard time getting a pension for the three children that were left behind. She had to get proof of her marriage but had trouble getting it because the minister who married them had left the country. She got a letter from a Stephen Goodle, of North Crosby, stating that he was well aquainted with John and Margaret who both resided in the township of North Crosby before marriage and were married near Westport. Their was also a george Cornell and Chauncey Cornell of Kingston who say they were at the wedding. MArietta's maiden name was Cornell.
I know that Asa was married three times. John's mother was Mary BArnes from Ohio.
I don't know anything on the Agnew family as I am concentrating right now on the Puffer family.
So John and Isaac were half brothers. Would like to keep in touchand share other info if you want. You can contact me at MOR4ART@aol.com

Barb,
I am looking for information on James Puffer, his wife Deborah Palmateer and their daughter Lucinda Puffer from Ontario. Does any of this sound familiar?
