I am trying to track down documents pertaining to my ancestors. Does anyone know how, when or why the Puccio's changed their name to Prutch? Any information would be very helpful. I am also looking for where I would find court documents showing the name change.

Thanks,
Lynn

Hi, my name is Mary and my nephew is writing this with me. His name is Hunter Prutch and he is 7 years old. My dad is Anthony Joseph Prutch, but he changed his name to Puccio several years ago. I asked him and he thought it was when the family was in Louisana. His email address is hogbike@starband.net and he is interested in ancestry too. He has a family tree from a "cousin" David Prutch and it might have a more accurate timeframe for when the name was changed.

Sincerely,

Mary (Prutch) Bloomsburg

Mary Prutch Kiesler first went to school in first grade. Not being able to speak english, they senther home as soon as she arrived everyday. Her father finnaly got a tutor so she could learn the language. The next year she went back to school. Seeing that she had learned the lanquage, the teacher, Miss Shacklet decided to change the last name. First it was changed to Pruccio and then finally to Prutch. She replied that they needed to Americanize the name.

Dear mousetrap1959, my grandfather was named John Prutch, to make sure that they are the same person what town did he live in and what did he do?

My name is David.

The story you told is the same one that I heard about the name change except I wasn't sure about who was the one that went to school and had it changed. My mother has a copy of my grandfathers marraige certificate and it has Puccio as the last names.

Cindy,
I would like to hear your story of the name change. My great grandmother is Antonia Puccio. Her name was changed to Mary Prutch when she went to school in Pueblo, Co. According to her (she is 99 years old) her cousin, also named Antonia Puccio, had her name changed to Mary Prutch by a teacher. My great grandmother is the daughter of Antonio (AT) Puccio and Josephine Montatello and she had 6 older brothers and 4 younger sisters.

Much thanks.

Hi everybody,
my name is Irina Prutch and I am marred to Andy Prutch. Our daughter Anastasia in 4 grade and they just finish their immigration project at school so we spend a lot of time for research. Andy's father was Hank Andrew and grand father was Sam and grand mother was Maria Denza. They had 9 kids : Mary, Rosie, Carl, Ruth, Hank, Tony, RoseAnn, Philip and Virginia. Sam (Salvatore), Joe (Giovane), Vinsenxa (Velma) and their mother Maria Antonia came to the USA in 1896 ( May 4) on SAN COIRGIO. She had two older boys Antonio and Joseph. We found that Joseph came in 1894. But the first member of Puccio family was Maria Antonia's sister Elizabeth. We used information of Mary Prutch Kiesler but find some new info on this site.

Mary: I am a g'daughter of Sam & Marie Prutch. According to a book written by my Mother (Mary Prutch Kiesler the name change took place after she started school at the age of 6-7. She was sent home from school her first day because she could not speak the English language. A tutor (Don Donizio) was hired by her father who taught she and both parents the English language. Mother's 1st grade teacher (Miss Shacklett,) at that time, suggested to my G'father that the name be changed The name was first changed from Puccio, later Pruccio (Prutch). Hope this is helpful
