I believe there is a connection between your family member and my gggrandfather, Giuseppe Puccini, who was also born in Diecimo, Italy near the region of Tuscany on 11/3/1834. Giuseppe was a son of Giuseppe and Assunta Castelli Puccini (there are 5 known children). He and his brother came to America, arriving in New York in 12/17/1856. After a little bit of time in New York, Giuseppe came to Germantown in Bracken Co., Ky.

The reason I believe our kin folk are related is that, as a very young child, I remember my greatgrandmother talking about Giacomo and telling us he was an uncle. She was so proud of his musical talents. In fact, my greatgrandmother's entire family was rather musically talented.

I don't know if this helps you. I haven't been able to find the total connection to Giacomo, but I am sure it exists witht his family.

If you would like to compare other family notes, please feel free to e-mail me at Rainma3349@aol.com. Thank you - Carolyn Elliott

Hi Don,
My familiy is from just outside the walls of Lucca in S'Anna and S'Angelo. In researching my family I have met two people from these same places with Bonturi in theor families. Both have heard they have a connection with Elvira Bonturi Gemingnani, his eventual wife.
Do you know either of her parents names or anything about her ancestry? I have been trying to help them find their connection. I can also give you their addresses if you would like. Thanks, Patty Grazini ...researching, Graziani, Stefanini, Landucci

Hi Donald, I am not a Puccini, but my maternal grandfather, a lucchese orchestra conductor was related to Sor Giacomo and knew him well. My grandfather's name was Samuele Giannini, married to Barbara Masino and a c ousin of the Torselli's, a very famous family from Viareggio, former owners of the Caffe' Margherita, one of Puccini's favorite hangouts.
My grandparents had three daughters, all musicians: Teresa (d), Albertina (my mother, also deceased) and Giovanna (living in Milan).
If anyone remembers the Gianninis being mentioned, I would appreciate the information.
Ciao e buona fortuna!
Giovanni

Ciao Don,
I have recently returned from the Lucca area of Tuscany
and indulging in my lifelong interest in Maestro Giacomo
Puccini, his life, and his music. While visiting his villa
at Torre del Lago, I was lucky enough to meet the last
surviving direct member of the family, Donna Simonetta Puccini. A charming and gracious lady who was kind enough to pose for a photograph with me, and who later
gave me a lift to my bus-stop (back to Lucca). I am
now interested in finding out something about her
father, Antonio and his wife's name (unknown at present).
Do you have any such details. Please contact me if
this subject is of interest to you.
Grazie,
Yvonne Garry, Dundas, Ontario, Canada

Having recently returned from the Lucca area of Tuscany,
I am most interested in all aspects of the life of the
great Maestro Giacomo Puccini, and have visited his
villa at Torre del Lago. There, I was lucky enough to
meet his grandaughter, Simonetta, and have my
picture taken with her. As you no doubt are aware,
Elvira Bonturi was first married to Narciso Geminiani
and had 2 children by him. Later, she lived with
Giacomo and bore him a son, Antonio. The eventual
marriage was stormy and filled with drama due to
Elvira's almost-psychotic jealousy. What an opera their
own lives would have made ! I hope this is not stale
news to you, and I would be interested in learning of your connection to the family.
Ciao,
Yvonne Garry

Hello Don,
I've just noticed your message requesting any information concerning Maestro Giacomo Puccini's
family. As it happens, I spent some weeks in Lucca
in autumn last year, and was privileged to meet the
last surviving member of his immediate family ....
his grandaughter, Simonetta Puccini. While touring his
favourite house in Torre del Lago, Signorina Puccini
was in residence and kindly offered to have her picture
taken with me in the garden there. She is a most
charming and gracious lady. It is so sad that there is
no heir to either his musical genius, nor the immense
legacy he left at his death. Simonetta never married.
If you would like to chat about your distinguished
"nipote", I also live in Canada (Ontario) and can be
reached at my e-mail address.
Ciao,
Yvonne

Did you find the connection? I'm Rosy Puccini now Hjermstad from Venezuela. Our family believes that our great grand father was Giacomos' cousin, but I have not been able to create the connection between the two because his dad only had one brother that die. Do you have the conection between the composer and your family? could you share it?

I am just trying to build the family tree.....

Best regards!!!

I'm also supposed to be related to Giacomo through my great-grandfather Aurelio Puccini (b. 1892) who emigrated from Lucca first to South America (not exactly sure where; I think Argentina maybe?) and then the U.S. but no one in my family is exactly sure how they were related, most likely cousins or something like that. Whatever the truth is we know that my great grandfather didn't ever want to speak of him and considered him to be something of a snob (they were supposed to meet once when Aurelio was in South America but Giacomo apparently blew him off). There definitely seems to be a South American connection with Giacomo (I read once he had a brother who lived there) but we still haven't been able to figure it quite out yet. I hope this helps
