Jeff, my branch of the family resides near Hamilton Ontario where they settled in 1832.The original ancestor was William Tolomie who changed his name to Ptolemy. They migrated from Scotland near the Ayrshire region. I know that many of the family migrated to the western US so we might have ties. Feel free to contact me at ptolemy@hotmail.com, my name is John Ptolemy

Hi - have read with interest your connection and association in the name Ptolemy with the Port Glasgow area (Scotland). My Grandmother who was Margaret Newton Ptolemy born 25.3.1912, and died in 1988!
I wondered how far did you get with this line of tracing, and if you had any other notes I could follow

Jeff, I am part of the Ptolemy family that resides in Nova Scotia Canada. I have traced our family back to Scotland.....but have yet to venture into the US. Most of our family first resided just outside of Hamilton, Ontario before it split to Western Canada. It will be interesting when I make it that far.

My email if you would like to contact me is: ptolemy13@hotmail.com

Thanks for the interest, Jeff. There were quite a few Ptolemy families in the Greater Hamilton area. You can find our research at Laidman.org. I'm sure that we can work something out if you need any assistance at this end. Canada 411, the phone site shows 22 current listings in Ontario.

You can reach me either through Ancestry or directly at nlaidman@quickclic.net
