FRANK/ANTON PTACEK - Bohemia-Cleveland
Researching PTACEK in Cleveland, Oh, from Bohemia. Frank was born about 1846 in Bohemia. Two children I'm sure of, BLANCHE, who married a Lou SMOLIK or CMOLIK, and George (who went by his middle name, ANTON, my g-grandfather). GEORGE ANTON was born in 1873 and died in 1917 and was married to MARY SVOBODA. They had 4 children, Ceclia, Edward, Helen and Willie. All lived in Newburgh/Cleveland. George Anton owned and operated the Park Buffet, a saloon on Fleet Ave. in Cleveland.

Jan, You have the same ancestors as my wife Kathleen. Her father Richard Ptacek was the son of James J. Ptacek who was the son of Frank Anton Ptacek who was born in 1846 in Ostrovec, Czechoslovakia. Based on the family tree information from my wife's family, Frank married Anna Kacirek, born 1858 in Ostrovec, Czechoslovakia. According to the family records, Frank migrated to the USA in 1882. My wife's family has a tree on the Kacirek family that goes WAY back. If you e-mail me, I will send you the tree information that I have.

This is a long shot - I remember some family stories about Canadian relatives. The surname was DENDERA, the father was Eddie, there were 3 daughters, Viola (?), Evelyn, and Judy, possibly a brother G......(?) Evelyn was born in Bonneville, Alberta, relocated to Brooklyn, NY. This family could be descendants of Maria SOBOTKA. If this fits, email casaloma@erols.com.

Re: FRANK/ANTON PTACEK - Bohemia-Cleveland
Don't know if there is a connection but, I've heard the name Anton mentioned in my searches. Also, I had a great aunt named Blanche. I know that it's not the same Blanche as yours, but the family names repeat often.
My grandmother was Bertha Ptacek. Her father was Joseph & married Marie Koch. Their children were: Joseph, Frank, Anna, Lillian, Blanche, Mary & Bertha.
Joseph & Marie both came from Bohemia & settled in the Bronx, NYC. Joseph was an iron worker & his ships chanderelly was once featured in New York magazine.
If any of this rings a bell, I would love to hear from you. I know from researching my grandfather's side, that it wasn't unusual for family to split up once they reached America.
I hope this info can be of some help to you & good luck in your search.

Re: FRANK/ANTON PTACEK - Bohemia-Cleveland
Thanks for the info. Nothing you wrote coincides with anything I have, but that doesn' t always mean that much. Cousins of some sort is certainly a possibility. The only city I've had any luck with Bohemia is "Ostrovek" - but there are actually 3 towns in Czech. named Ostrovek, so I don't even know which one is "mine." Let me know if you find anything else, and I will too! Good luck on your search as well.
