I'm descended from Sylvester Proffitt (or Prophet) through his son, Rev. John Proffitt. Other family trees list James Proffitt of the Jamestown Colony of 1607 as being the father of Sylvester Proffitt. That doesn't make sense. There are 92 years between 1607 and 1698. James Proffitt maybe an ancestor of Sylvester, but was he the father?

And how does Jacob Profit relate to James Proffitt? Thanks.
