I found exactly what you found except: I think that Caroline Quailes may have been a sister of Thomas Forsyth. My grandfather (Wm Arthur Proctor) told my mother that his grandmother was a Forsyth before she married. I wonder if she 1st married a Quailes and had Josiah (Joe). Then her 2nd husband could have been Herman H. Proctor and he may have been killed in Civil War. They married in Oct 1860 and Wm Mark was born 1863. I wonder if the H.W. Proctor was Wm Mark's grandfather and he may have died between the 1860-1870 census. Wm Mark could have been living w/his grandfather H.W. w/the Dodd family and they just let him live w/them. As he got older, he moved on to AL w/ his 1/2 brother Joe Quailes or maybe Joe went 1st and Wm Mark followed. Haven't found Caroline since 1860 and wonder if she died between 1863 - 1870 and that's why he was w/grandfather. No definite proof as yet, but it seems very possible.
