Carder looking for Procter

I have an unusual story and would like to get in touch with anyone who could help.

My grandfather, Thomas Allen Carder, Sr. was born 8/1/29 in Savannah, GA. The story passed down in our family was that my great-grandmother, originally from West Virginia, married a Charles Thomas Procter who was a pharmacist and his family was from Palm Beach, FL. The story passed down was that she moved to Palm Beach after marriage, but became very homesick. While pregnant with my grandfather (her first born), she left her husband, Charles Procter, and hopped a train/bus home to WV. She went into labor as she traveled through GA and gave birth to my grandfather in Savannah on 8-1-29.She made it back home to WV and remarried the man that legally adopted my grandfather which gave us the surname Carder. My great grandmother and her second husband had 3 more daughters. My grandfather has passed away and even though we have regular family reunions, everyone is reluctant to talk about it all. At our reunions all of us "Tom Carder, Sr's" stand out with our blonde hair and blue eyes while everyone else has darker hair and darker eyes. If anyone has any information please contact me here. Thanks!

Hi Doreen, there is no baptisms for Elizabeth Procter in Carlton in Craven St Mary's for the years 1781- 1812, There is one in Long Preston on the 26 June 1802 father John (Jnr) & Elizabeth.
Perhaps you need to confirm the baptism?
The record for the marriage says George Ellot (is this an error) & Elizabeth Procter which is dated 1 Nov 1824. The baptism record for a George Ellott (another error?) is confirmed as 21 Apr 1799 Long Preston.
My Lothersdale Christ church parish record doesn't start until 1838.

Robert

Then they were shipped out to different assignments.
After the war ended, Earl went Cincinnati to visit with his Army bud, only to be told by the butler that he had gone on an extended hunting trip with his father.
My father-in-law told me Procter was of the Procter & Gamble family. He would like to know whatever happened to his Army bud.

Hello - thank you. I also have this marriage to George Elliott and their residence in 1841 to 1861 - when George was a widower. So at this point he is a servant in Stirton with Thorlby. My problem is that I cannot find anything further for Elizabeth ie who her family were. George was christened at Long Preston Church on 21 April 1799, and his parents were George Elliott (1775-) and Catherine Clark (1775 - ) who were married at Gisburn.

Neither Catherine or Elizabeth seem to be in any records (as yet)

Hi Faye, nearest match (unproven) I can find for a first marriage of John b 1802 is Elizabeth Sutton b 23 Jun 1805 in Rawdon Guisley. Married on the 22 Dec 1825 @ Guisley St Oswald. It does state John is a Widow in his second marriage to Elizabeth Smith on the 3 Mar 1835. So your James may have this mother.
There might also be other siblings of James which I will check on.

Regards
Robert Proctor (Lancashire)

William Procter b abt 1806 Lothersdale - Australia?

My Gt x 3 Grandfather William Proctor b abt 1806 (Blacksmith) in Lothersdale West Riding of Yorkshire married Sarah Pickles on the 04 Jan 1821. They had 4 children William b1824, Edwin b1827, Francis b1831 and Moorhouse b1833.
Unfortunately 2 weeks after Moorhouse was born Sarah passed away on the 19 Sept 1833 aged 34. The chldren then split up I have found a census record for Moorhouse in 1841 living with Betty Brown in Yorkshire and a seperate Census record for the other 3 children William, Edwin and Francis living with Charles Senior and family but no father Wiliam can be found.
Yesterday I found a criminal record for William (father) for sheep stealing on the 28 march 1835 and sentenced to transportation for life. So I assume he was sent to NSW Australia, I cannot as yet find a passenger list or a ship name but he probably started a new life and may have remarried. Do you have any information?
I am not aware that any of my main line Proctor's went to America or Canada but perhaps a brother or cousin did.
Any information will be galdly received and I am very willing to share the information I have.
If Pauline reads this then please read your gmail it looks like we have the same Gtx2 Grandfather!
Regards
Robert Proctor

robertp5@sky.com

Thankyou.

Many thanks - I had since found a marriage in Carlton on the 1 Nov 1824 - now that the West Yorkshire records have appeared on Ancestry.

I have also found her death in Skipton in Jul - Sep 1853.

Unable to find her birth, but have found a record of Procters living at Procter Heights Farm, Lothersdale. In a census carried out in Lothersdale in 1838 - in preparation for a new church, Mr John Benson Sidgwick undertook a local census ... where he noticed read poverty he left one shilling. He recorded a John Procter at Procterheights with 2 children under 7, 6 age up to 14, and with three unbaptised. He left one shilling. I am wondering if Elizabeth could have been one of the unbaptised?

Thank you for your info.

I just thought the Moorhouse connection might be there.
Searching the records there are 3 possibilities the one I have (b1797) with father Richard and mother Grace Burton, a William Proctor (b1800) Guisley, father John and another one (b 1789)Brotherton, father John Mother Anne.

Thanks anyway
Rob
He had 5 sons: Edmund (born in London in 1797), Marianne, Charles, Louise, Emily. He moved with its family to Vienna, where he lived for many years. I do not now when and where he is dead.
Thanks
Paolo Sorgato
Via Crespellani 41/3
41121 Modena
Italy

Her parents are Peter Hartley (B.1793) in Lothersdale and Jane Proctor (B. 1792/3) in Keighley and died in 1870. Is there a link anywhere? I'm particularly interested in what seems to have been her illegitimate son Benson (B. 1842)

No Morehouse Procter in my records, although I do have a Sarah Moorhouse born circa 1752. Sorry I can't be of any help.

Carol,I have Samuel married to Anne (no surname or date)& then to Mary HARTLEY (22.08.1822). Samuel died 26.09.1838 at Burned Hill, Black Lane Ends, Thornton in Craven. According to my records Samuel's son John (B 29.11.1802) John had a son James in 1828 but I do not have the name of his then wife or any info on what happened to her. His second marriage was to Elizabeth (Betty) Smith on 03.03.1834. Children were Smith, John, Thomas, Mary, William, Nancy, Ellen, and Richard. I am descended from James the first son. Do you have any info on John's first wife? (my gg grandmother) My info was given to me by a distant relative so hope it is right:)
Note - all of the data is unconfirmed and unsupported by records...Samuel born 12 Jan 1783 in Cowling, died at Carlton Moor - Carlton in Craven. Was the son of Samuel (1751) and Sarah Moorhouse. He married Alice Holmes 24 June 1804 Keighley Parish Church, Yorkshire. Possible children - Sarah (02 Oct 1804 Keighley), Elizabeth (08 Nov 1806 Keighley), Mary (18 July 1808 Keighley), Nancy (02 Feb 1812 Keighley), Tabitha (08 May 1814 Keighley died 15 April 1827), William (18 July 1819). Also have listed another Mary (18 July 1819), Jane (26 Nov 1824 or 1826) and John (25 Dec 1828). Possibly two different families here but with parents of same name. Sorry if this is confusing. Will look for Thomas next.

Hi Faye, I have seen your post on the Geneologist and replied to it, have you seen it?
My earliest confirmed Proctor is William b 1806 in Lothersdale Yorkshire, his wife Sarah Pickles unfortunately passed away after the birth of Moorhouse Proctor in 1833.
Do you or does anybody have any information on this please?
If you can send me the information you mentioned that would be wonderful or if anybody else has a copy I would appreciate it.

I can be contacted on
robertp5@sky.com

Regards
Robert Proctor

Hello Regina

All i know is that my Thomas Procter was born circa 1702. He arrived in Sussex in 1720 most likely on a customs cutter owned by his future father in law Nathaniel Pigrim. We have made a huge leap of faith that he came from Yorkshire as around about 1720 Pigrim was in Liverpool. The other possibility is that he came from abroad. Was he an exile as one of his future children was christened by "The King in exciles personal priest" Could this King be Charles Stuart.

Any assitence would be welcomed. Many thanks

Dave Procter
