I am searching for information relating to Edward Primrose, born about 1643 in Madron, Cornwall. Edward had 2 daughters, Katherine born about 1689 and Mary born about 1690. Katherine married Edward Tregurtha of Breage, Cornwall, their children included Edward Primrose I,(my 3 x Great Grandfather), William and Phillis (who married Thomas Leah).
Edward P Tregurtha I married Mary Burgess, their children included Mary Eliza (who married Charles Goldsmith), Edward Primrose II (who married Elizabeth Bussell and moved to Tasmania/author of The Tregurtha Log), Elizabeth Harvey, Emma Williams (who married Alexander Dennis and moved to Victoria, Australia), Sophia Burgess (who moved to Australia and is buried in Healesville), John William Burgess my 2 x Great Grandfather (who married Sarah Abrahams and settled in Williamstown, Victoria, Australia), Annie Ellen and Matilda Burlton.
Family history suggests that Edward Primrose joined the Royal Navy (possibly in the 1660's)and rose through the ranks, possibly to Commander. He was captured by pirates in about 1690/1700 and taken to Tangiers as a galley slave. From there he escaped and made his way back to England, but upon his return he was attacked by a press gang and severely wounded. How much of this story is factually correct I am unsure as I have not been able to locate any information regarding Edward's Naval career. The story is related in the writings of his Great Grandson Edward Primrose II.
I would be grateful for any information relating to Edward, his wife, or his daughters Katherine and Mary and any other children he may have had.
