Hi Frank,

Try joining the Channel Islands mailing list. There are a lot of helpful people who may be able to give you the information you need. Priaulx is a very old name in Guernsey. I have some among my ancestors back in the late 1600s-early 1700s.

Another good site to look is Donkipedia which has links to Jerripedia. If you can find the maiden name of Marthe Priaulx 2nd wife of Daniel on the 1871 census, you may be able to find her birth in Jersey.

Also try to Google "daniel priaulx family history". There is someone researching him on Rootschat.

Searching the 1891 census for him born 1883 with a 10 year variance, there was only 1 Alfred Priaulx that came up. The family were living in 52 ?Pleirshaume? Rd, Vale, Guernsey and are listed as follows (? means I'm not sure of the writing):

Back again. Blanche was born Jun qtr 1887 and registered in Plymouth, Vol 5b Pg 243. Her marriage was Dec qtr 1903, Plymouth, Vol 5b Pg 469. Blanche and Alfred had at least one child called Jessie F. Priaulx registered Jun qtr 1912, Plymouth, Vol 5b Pg 476. Mother's surname not listed prior to mid 1911 but the following were probably their children also, all registered in Plymouth:
Alfred Nicholas Sep qtr 1904, 5b/232
Robert John Dec qtr 1905, 5b/233
Bessie Mar qtr 1907, 5b/183
Albert John Mar qtr 1908, 5b/190
William John Mar qtr 1910, 5b/232
Blanche E Jun qtr 1911, 5b/227

Looks like Blanche Priaulx nee Tupper may have married again in Dec qtr 1917, reg Plymouth 5b/584 to Frederick G Moyle. I didn't find any children for her second marriage

I don't know what information you will get on English records of that time, but if you get Alfred and Blanche's marriage record it will confirm at least the names of Alfred and Blanche's fathers and possibly occupations. Getting Blanche's birth record should not only give you her father's name but hopefully her mother's name and possibly maiden name.

Sorry, I coulcn't find Blanch on the 1891 or 1901 census.

Cheers,
Diane

thanks for the info but still not sure as on his army records it states Alfred PRIAULX Private 47160 Canadian Infantry (Quebec Regiment) 09/11/1915 Age 32 La Plus Douve Farm Cemetery, near Ypres. I. B. 18. Born at St Peter's, Guernsey. Husband of Blanche Priaulx of Plymouth, Devon so if i use his age on the 1891 census we have a 2 year gap so will have to see if i can get hold of his marriage records to see if the info is on it to confirm many thanks frank
