Age 82, died on Sunday, June 28, 2015, in Orangevale, CA. She was born in Tescott, Kansas to Hobart and Lou May PRATER and was the seventh of eight children. Hazel was One-Of-A-Kind. She was a mother, grandmother of 10, and great-grandmother of 4. She worked many jobs (Ma Bell, Almond Growers) and retired from the Federal Government as a WG 11 after 25 years of service. She was a world traveler and lived in Germany, Belgium, and Panama while working for the government.Hazel loved to dance and enjoyed having gatherings with family and friends at her home.

My 8th great grandmother was Mary Prater, born 1693 in Calne, Wiltshire. She married Matthew Duck, born 1692 and died 1742 in Calne, Wiltshire. They married in 1714 in Calne, Wiltshire. From the marriage records, I know Mary's father's name was William but that's all I know about her ancestry. By chance, if your William Prater lines up with my ancestors, I would love to fill in the approx 250 year gap! Thanks in advance!!

Russell G. Prater Sr., age 67, of Eastlake, Ohio for the past year, formerly of Mentor, Ohio died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. (Cuyahoga County)

He was born Nov. 23, 1942, in Hueysville, (Floyd County) Kentucky.

Mr. Prater was the owner/operator of Russ's Auto Care in Cleveland, Ohio for the past 25 years.

He was a member of RC Airplane Club "Spector," and held an airplane pilot's license.

Survivors are his children, Russell G. Prater Jr. of Andover, Angela (Charles) Witt of Red House, W.Va., Deborah (Donald) Hobbs of Painesville, Ohio and Samantha Harris of North Charleston, S.C.; nine grandchildren; Miranda, Cody, Mason, Lauren, Joey, Hannah, Jacob, John and Hailey; two sisters, Dorothy Teel of Martin, Ky., and Frances Kay (Dennis) Henson of Hueysville, Ky.; one brother, Frank (Peggy) Prater of Garrett, Ky.; two aunts, Stella Carpenter of Willard, Ohio and Louise (Donald) Sexton of Willard; former wife, Mary Seeser of Summerville, S.C.; and best buddy, Tyson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sol and Ada (Sparkman) Prater; son-in-law, Eddie Harris; and nephew, Shannon Edward Teel.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Brunner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in care of the family.

SHELBY: Grady L. Prater, age 76, resident of Shelby, Ohio died Friday, March 13, 2015 in Mansfield Memorial Homes following a brief illness.

Born April 7, 1938 in White County, Tennessee, he was raised by his maternal grandparents, William and Rissie Mae (Cunningham) Prater.
Grady lived for many years in Mt. Gilead, Ohio before moving to Shelby in 1997. He served on the Morrow County Sheriff's Auxiliary Unit and was a Park Ranger for Clear Fork Reservoir, retiring in 1997.
He enjoyed going to auctions and flea markets and cherished the time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth "Liz" Prater, whom he married September 1, 1956; their children, Deborah (Scott) Adkins of Shelby, David Prater of Mt. Gilead, Lonnie (Susie) Prater of Mt. Gilead and Laura "Niecy" (Randy) Shepherd of Shiloh; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three half-brothers, Lloyd (Donna) Rankhorn of Mt. Gilead, James "Howard" (Maryanne) Rankhorn of Tennessee, and Landus Rankhorn of Michigan; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents; his mother and step-father, Anna Lee (Prater) and Orvallee Rankhorn; and infant great-granddaughter, Lily Grace Spencer.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at the Elm Street Freewill Baptist Church in Shelby. Reverend Doug Tackett will officiate with interment in Franklin Cemetery, Mansfield, Ohio.
Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the MedCentral Hospice, 335 Glessner Ave., Mansfield, OH 44903. Online condolences may be left at www.barkdullfuneralhome.com

Frank was retired from the Ohio Operating Engineers Union Local 10, an Army Veteran and a member of Aurora Masonic Lodge #48.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Alberta “Bonnie” Prater, 4 brothers; Lawrence, Edward, Carl, and Ernest, 2 sisters; Edith Irene Prater, and Janet Copas.

He is survived by 2 sons; Franklin Edward (Kim) Prater of Portsmouth, Rodney Dale (Jamie) Prater of McDermott, a daughter; Lori Lee Jenkins of Orwell, OH, a brother; Kenneth Prater of Reynoldsburg OH, 4 sisters; Marie Goble of Prestonsburg KY, Garnet Hackworth of West Portsmouth, Eunice Culver of West Portsmouth, Rosetta Henry of McDermott, 4 grandchildren Cassie Jo Prater, Hollie Prater, Jenna Jenkins, James Prater.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Thursday June 23, 2011 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth, OH with Pastor Ed Cox officiating and interment in Mershon Cemetery with graveside military rites by James Dickey Post #23 of the American Legion.

PORTSMOUTH-Vivian Juanita Prater, 71 of Portsmouth passed away July 29, 2014 at the SOMC E.R.

She was born Oct. 12, 1942 in Portsmouth, Ohio (Scioto County) a daughter of the late Pauline Sibert Prater and Roy Prater.

She was a P.H.S. graduate, worked in Columbus, Ohio for many years before returning to her hometown of Portsmouth in 2000.

Viv was an avid Ohio State Fan and coached them from her living room.

She is also proceeded in death by her loving sister Mary Prater Edmisten.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter Mindy Robertson and two grand children Ryan and Anna of Florida, her sisters Delores Nichols (Dudley) and Cathy Prater of Portsmouth and her brother Roy Anthony Prater of Georgia.
A brother-in-law George Edmister of Columbus.
A very special niece Macy Abrams and special nephew Jordan Edmister of Columbus and two very special cousins Michael David Prater and Susan Prater-McConnell.

She was blessed with several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and very caring care givers
Viv was a very caring lady and loved by all.
Arrangements was handled by Browns Funeral Home in Ironton with no visitation (per Viv's request). Viv we all love you and will miss you dearly.

Jonathan's father was: Thomas Prather (Prater) .. this

If you know that Archibald was married to Susannah Meadors, then we are related. But their son Louis middle name was not Morris -- it was Meadors. Louis Meadors Prater is my husband's direct line. I know it has been a long time (and I don't remember if I answered this before or not), but if you still need info on any of these people, please email me and I will give you the information you need. I have a lot of information, especially from Louis Meadors and his family on down. He has a very interesting war story connected with him too.

My great grandfathers father married an indian women she
was full blood biloxi indian. She had my grt grandfather
Willie and his brothers, Paul, Jack, Benjamin, Martha and I think Mary. The family was named Prater. His father was also
Biloxi Indian with a quarter white so they all looked white.
Willie was born in 1855 in rapids parish Louisiana and he
married a women name Judi Brown who became Judi Prater and they 11 children my grandmother Eloise was the baby.
Maybe this info will help you.

Just saw your post on ancestry. I do not have any info on Bertha (Berthina). I know her father is Thomas H. Hudson, out of Indiana and he passed in Ottawa County, Tescott to be exact. That is the only info I currently have.

My Great Grand Mother Bessie Prater married to Martin Prater used to tell me the same story when I was growing up, something that they went to Austria for a will from Sir Knight Charles Prater (I could be wrong its been along time ago to remember the name) and since not everyone showed up the land was donated to Austria and they made a park in the donation.

This is a sister to my grandmother Edith Sibilla Prater who married my grandfather James Jeffery in 1856. As well as Edith, Mabel had brothers William John (1879), Lewis (1881), and sisters Elizabeth J(1877) and Caroline M (1884). All were born in Cornwall UK and have the same father, Thomas, but the last four had a different Mother, Mary Jane Strongman.

Shipping records and the 1940 US census seems to show the two boys in the states at that time, both married. Mabel Annie Prater married Joseph Osborne in 1896 and had two children, that I can see. Along with Mabel's two sisters above, Elizabeth and Caroline, I can find no more records her daughter, Dorothy Myrtle, . Her son, Francis Thomas Percy Osborne married Jane Ann Evelyn Shepperd in 1921. So, what has happened to this family? Am I right about the States connection? Who is still out there? This one is close to the heart.

I am trying to find out more about Dale Prater. He and my great grandma had a child together in 1952 in Oklahoma. I don't know much about him and can't get very much information. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thank you.

My great grandfather was Richard Prater and he was married to a Black Foot Indian. They called Big Mommy, even though she was a petite woman. They lived in WV/KY area.
