Re: William C. Pracht b. 19 Jan 1836 in Zimmer, Germany
I am unable to find a Zimmer in Germany. Is it possible that the city/town is Zimmern? There are 8 of them. Do you know the 'State' he came from in Germany? My ancestors came from Germany in the 1750s. Their surname was Pracht but I don't know the town they came from. Knowing where your William C. came from might isolate my search.

Re: William C. Pracht b. 19 Jan 1836 in Zimmer, Germany
As I mentioned in my original post, there are no towns in Germany with the name Zimmer (which means room) but there are 8 towns called Zimmern. Like the USA, Germany has many states and each one probably has a Zimmern. Therefore, you need to know which state to look in. The Peter Pracht I am researching came over in 1751 on the 'Priscilla'. He was single at the time. The ship landed in Boston and many of the families went to a German settlement in Broad Bay (now known as Waldoboro), Maine. The spelling has changed over the years and is now spelled Prock. I have not yet located his ancestors in Germany. History has it that he came from Altzen. I cannot find that spelling in my German atlases but there are towns spelled Alzen and Alzey which I am looking into. What information do you have on your Pracht ancestors? What is his full name and when did he come over? If you have the ship's name, the passenger list might be available and usually has some clues.

Re: William C. Pracht b. 19 Jan 1836 in Zimmer, Germany
Hello Yes, I am researching my family. I have now researched it back to 1620 in Baden -wurttenberg area. In fact, this past summer I went to Germany and met some of my 3rd and 4th cousins.
My Great Grandfather came over to America in March 1880 on a vessle called the Maine. Contrary to the stories we were told, he came alone, unless someones name did not get put on the manifest.
I have been reserching with my father since 1991, but after my father's interest faded, I continued on. I have now met cousins in Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, and if I can make a connection between George Christian and my family, I will have confirmed a cousin in New Mexico. It is ironic because the possible cousin in New Mexicos father, my father, and a cousin in Germany all have the same facial features. Thank you

It doesn't sound like we have a connection as I believe my ancestor came from an area much closer to Frankfurt am Main than Baden-Württemberg. I lived in a small town called Böhmenkirch which is about 60km east of Stuttgart in 1996-1997. It was a beautiful area.

Re: William C. Pracht b. 19 Jan 1836 in Zimmer, Germany
I believe your grandfather was my grandmother's brother. I am descended from George Christian Pracht, b. 1811, from Zimmern, Thuringia (near Bad Langensalza), and our records show a William who was 14 in 1850 when the family emigrated to Wisconsin.
