Hi :). My Prachar line starts with Michael Prachar who immigrated from Cz 28 Jan 1906 and received citizenship on 25 Apr 1914. His wife's name was Julia Scibran. They had 6 children. I am descended through their son, John Prachar, (my grandfather). Michael Prachar died in Florida 14 Sep 1962. Any connection? I have additional info, but a lot of it is from the family and unverified.

Hi Sherrie,

My great grandparents, grandparents, and father are all from Davenport, Iowa. My great gradparents were from Bohemia (I think). My grandfather was Alfred George Prachar. I don't know the names of my great grandparents, but could do a little research if we are on the right track.

Let me know,

Gary Prachar

I have a painting from Florida that is signed Zikmund and on the back it says the artist is Madam Zikmund. My parents recived this painting as a wedding gift. Not sure who it came from. This was around 1939. It looks like maybe ciprus trees and a boat in the water with spanish moss in the trees. Would you know anything about this? Could this have been your ggrandmothers painting or someone else in your family? I don't know who was in Fl at the time who would have bought it. Anyhow I thought this was interesting. Thank you, Dianne

Hi I just wanted to let you know that my great grandfather (I believer) immigrated from Czecholslovakia. I do not know when though. My grandfather is Andrew Prachar his son, and he married Joan Wildt, and my mom is Nancyellen Prachar. I don't know if any of these names seem familiar to you. I just thought I'd try to see if it helped. Thanks

We are all related. Michael Prachar and Julia Scibran had several children. There is a site that has our genealogy, but only because one of the Prachars married into a Brown family for which the site is for. It is at hdgdata.org. Go to the main alpha index and then index 156 and look for the Prachars. For some reason I can't seem to access these pages anymore, but give it a try. Alli, your mom is my cousin and your grandfather is my uncle. Michael, off the top of my head, I don't know where you fit in and I can't access that above website, but my Mom (Charlotte Prachar) knows and Alli's grandfather knows the histories well. I believe my cousin Father Andrew Prachar has worked on his genealogy. Unfortunately, I believe the family had a lot of infighting. They did not all get along, and so drifted apart. That is why you don't know the rest of us, Michael, I think. Alli and I are descended from Andrew Prachar Sr. (her grandfather is Jr.). Contact me if you want to know more...annmarie8@aol.com

I do not know if you will get this, all the messages for this name are a number of years old. I am trying a long shot here. Does anyone have Prachar relatives that settled in Saline county, Nebraska? If so does anyone know if a Prachar from Bohemia married a Bittner in Bohemia. I am trying to find where my Bittner family came from in Bohemia.

They immigrated first to Canada, unsure when but I think in the very early 1880's, maybe sooner. They then came to Nebraska sometime in the 1880's. They were in Nebraska by 1886.

The family that came to the US was Vaclav Bittner, wife, Mary, children, Anna, born about 1868, son Anton, born about 1872, and another daughter, Mary, born in the early to mid 1870.

In the marriage licenses for all three children it gives the parents names. In each of the marriage licenses the mother's maiden name is spelled a little different and is also hard to interpret the exact spelling of each of the three different spellings.

I looked through a Saline county, Nebraska 1900 atlas and found similar spellings of the three. Thinking that the Bittners might have come to Nebraska where other family members had settled, I picked out the three different names that most resembled the three different spellings. Prachar was one of the names I chose.

I have searched and searched to find where they were from in Bohemia and now this is another trick I am trying. There were no other Bittners in the area so I am trying to find Mary's family.

The daughter, Anna, is my greatgrandmother. If any of this sound familiar I would be most grateful for any info you might have on where they originated from. Would love to share what info I have on them.

In later years they gave Austria as their home country.

I'm still here!

None of your scenario fits me personally; hopefully one of the others will respond.
