Well, I read your other message first before I saw this one and we might have something here. My mom's cousin (Mae)keeps in touch with a woman (named Carol) who is a cousin of ours somewhere along the Pozek family tree. Just where we all fit together, I have no idea just yet - maybe your Edward the First is my great-grandfather's (Rudolph Pozek) brother or cousin or nephew. It should be interesting to find out, somehow. I'll keep in touch and let you know if the Carol that my mom's cousin is your Carol Hale!

Well, Ed, The Carol my mom's cousin keeps in touch with has never been married and is the daughter of George Pozek so, she's not your aunt. You said your dad lives in California but is that where your family is from? Did they come from Austria at some point? Like I said, my Pozeks immigrated from Austria into Pennsylvania and Ohio. We could be long-lost cousins three times removed or something. You just never know. You might be related to the Pozeks in the Chicago area whose family have messages out and about on Ancestry.com and Rootsweb.com. Keep me informed.

I am E.Pozek's cousin, and I just wanted to make a few corrections to his post. I was surprised to see a post from him. I am researching our family history.

Our grandmother (Mary Jane)'s maiden name was Gabauer (from Pittsburgh, PA)

Carol is from grandma (Mary Jane Gabauer)'s first marriage to Norman Tragesar, so she is not a Pozek.

I'm looking for a long lost highschool friend Joseph Pozek (Jozef, Jozko) who studied with me at the Slovak institute in Rome in the early 1960's. He was born in Slovenia, studied in Italy and then joined his family in Chicago, probably in 1967/68. If you have any information about him and or his whereabouts, I would greatly appreciate your assistance. Thanks.
...Vladimir

Hi Vladimir -- your post made me giggle a bit. I think you're talking about my father. He did go by "Joe" or "Josef", but his birth name is Giuseppe. He went to school in Rome, left around 68 or so, met my mom, married her and -- voila! -- here I am ....

Tell me more about what you remember, and I'll see if I can help you get in touch with him.

Regards,
Heather Pozek Mendoza
