I started this board in hopes of finding additional information about my mom's family. In particular, I'm looking for information on Rudolph Pozek, Jr. (b. in the 1890s in Austria) and his younger brother John Pozek (b. ~1899 either on the ship coming over from Austria or somewhere in the Reading/Scranton area). Also looking for some information of their brother Nicholas (who was also born in Austria in the 1890s) whose family settled in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Those are the 3 oldest out of 9 children. The other children, including my grandmother, are pretty much accounted for.

Cathy: I will start with an earlier Rudolph Pozek, my great-grandfather. Rudolph, b. Mar 20, 1867 d. June 9, 1914; married Magdalena Jankovic (Yankovic, Jonkovich, b. Sept 15, 1866 d. Aug 8, 1947). They married in 1891 in Ljubljanska, Austria.
Their first first born was Rudolph, b. 1984 Austria, d. Aug 22, 1937 (Cleveland, Ohio). Next child was my grandfather, Nicholas b. Oct 19, 1895 in Austria, d. Feb 20, 1970 in Cleveland.
Other children: John b. Nov 7, 1899 in USA (possibly Scranton/Reading area) I don't have complete info, but John married Elsie, had daughter Theresa; Married Marian, children: James, John Paul.
Mary b. Jan 19, 1901 in Etna, d. Aug 18, 1991; married Mark Prus, children: Jean, Vincent, Lorraine, Carolyn
Anna b. May 1912, Lawrenceville, d. June 7, 1985; married Joseph Ketter May 10, 1922
Louis Aloysious b. Mar 21, 1904, d. Apr 11, 1956 Pittsburgh
Frances b. Feb 8, 1905, d. 1906 (approx 1 yr old)
There was another child that died in infancy after Frances
Rosemary b. May 12, 1908, d. May 14, 1987; married Clifford Reed, children: Rosemary, Clifford, Patricia Ann; married Joseph McGill, children: Jimmy, Denny
Joseph b. May 17, 1914, d. Aug 12, 1943 at St. Lo (France) after 18 months in service (WWII)
Rudolph left Austria's dictatorship under Franz Josef in 1895, settling in Scranton/Reading working in the steel mills for approx. 4 yrs. In 1899, Magdalena and the 2 boys (Rudolph and Nicholas) arrived. They lived in Lawrenceville on Butler Street when they came to Pittsburgh. In 1912, they moved to Dersam Street (Pittsburgh). In 1914, Rudolph was killed in a car barn accident with the settlement from the transit system ($500) a house was built in Brushton at 1061 Lawndale St in 1916.
The next layer I have more information on would be my immediate family, the Nicholas Pozek line.
Hopefully my info matches what you already have and we can go from here.

Jane, I'm at work right now so I can't compare your info with what I have but it all looks like what I do have at home. The only info right now that I can say I didn't know about was there being another infant besides Frances that died. So, your grandfather & my grandmother (Rosemary Pozek Reed) were brother & sister which makes us cousins somewhere along that family tree, right? My mom is Patricia and most of the family lives in the Pittsburgh area. Anyway, I have to get to work now but I have some copies of SS applications & even a copy of our great-grandfather's death certificate so I think we'll be able to share some info with each other, especially about our immediate families. I'll be in touch. CATHY

Jane, Looks like our info matches pretty well. Anna was my great-aunt and we spent a lot of time at her house - which was the same house built in the Brushton area of Pittsburgh after our great-grandfather's (Rudolph) death. I've been at this family tree stuff for a couple years now and would like to hear more of the info you have and would be glad to share what I know, if you're interested. Post a reply and I'll get back to you!!!

Cathy: Definitely would like to know more about the rest of the family. I've just started on this treasure hunt, but should be able to fill in all the blanks for you on the Nicholas Pozek branch. I have a copy of the church marriage record for Rudolph & Magdalena I can send you. Also I am learning slovene, so may be able to assist translating anything you have. Either post a reply here or jepozek@aol.com. Thanks- Jane

Well, Nick, I've found since my original posting in January that my Nicholas Pozek was born in 1895 in Adlesici, Austria and his wife's name was Margaret and they had 5 kids. (I've been in touch with one of Nicholas' granddaughters). There seems to be quit a few Pozeks from that part of Austria in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and out toward the Midwest - who knows, we may all be relatives somewhere down the line. Maybe my great-grandfather, Rudolph, had brothers who moved here and settled farther west than my family - I just don't know at this point. I've often thought it would be interesting to find out, though. Do you know if your Nicholas had an uncle named Rudolph?? That would be a start. Keep in touch.

. . . perhaps two different Nicholas Pozeks (three including myself). My information was gleaned from the gravemarkers at All Saints Braddock Catholic Cemetery. As for the fellow I am discussing, I keep in contact with his son regularly.

Nick, I've seen those Pozeks on www.rootsweb.com and here on the Ancestry.com site but haven't been able to connect them to my family tree. I've found it interesting over the past couple years of my own research that quite a few of the Pozeks listed on genealogy sites are from the same area in Austria. I can't help but think that they're connected in someway but haven't been able to figure out how. If I ever do find a connection, I'll post here on this board. Good luck with your continued research.
