Hi Im beginning to research my fathers genology
Our surname Poyerd is an americanized version of the name POYER

My grandfather was born James T. Poyerd in Grand Rapids Michigan in Oct of 1893.
his parents names were
Adele Pellarin and Solomon Poyerd (listed on grandfathers birth certificate as Poyer.
I know Solomon and Adele had over 12 children -some of the names known was their oldest daughter was Josephine and youngest daughter was Anna Poyerd Oat who died in CT.
This family was in Michigan the New London area of CT and in the New Bedford area of MASSachus. Other sibling names of James Poyerd were William and Emma(she married a man whose last name was Gladue). This family originates from the province of Quebec --i think Solomon was born in Canada but not sure . Any help would be appreciative.

Hello!

I've traced my ancestors all the way to the 16th century.
What I've found is that a lot of the Poyers lived in Michigan during the time you
mentioned. My Poyer line starts with Elsey Ann Poyer, daughter of Abiathar Rhodes Poyer.
It goes on up from there. I have a tons of info if it turns out we're related!

Let me know!

Hi,
My POYER ancestors are reputed to have been from Canada and then moved to New York and then on to Illinois. My ancestor, Jean Baptiste Poyer, Sr., b. 1794 in Canada, d. in Des Plaines Illinois, m. Mary Louisa (surname unknown) and thought to have been born in Canada as well. Their children were Jean Baptiste, Jr., Benjamin F., Lewis, Moses, Joseph, Jane and Selina.
Are we related?
Thanks. Jeannie

Hi there . I noticed you mentioned that some of the Poyer's settled in Mass. Do you have any info on those Poyer's
My grandfather was James T Poyerd. It appears that my great-grandfather americanized the name and added the d. My great-grandfather was Solomon Poyer and he married Adele Pellarin. I have very little info on them but I have been told my family derives from Saint Hyacinthe -Quebec. Solomon and Adele had at least 12 children including Ann, Josephine, William, Arthur, and Emma. My father James F. Poyerd was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts and supposedly many of the Poyer/Poyerds went to Massachusetts as well. Im not sure about Solomon's parents or his siblings which may possibly be the connection.
You can email me at Forpsyt@aol.com if you find anything that you can share.
Thanks
