Hi
Am having trouble tracing Poxon's from Barnsley, Yorkshire. The only confirmed info I have is my Dad, Raymond Anthony b. 1945, and his siblings, William, Mary, James and Sylvia. I think parents were William and Mary also.
Any info gratefully received! Thanks.

Hi
I think your dad is a son of William Poxon b 1 Feb 1909 Barnsley and his wife Mary Ellen b 20 Nov 1913 Barnsley.
William Poxon is a son of Henry Poxon b 20 May 1882 Barnsley and Amy Newsam b 6 Mar 1884 Barnsley, who married on 19 Jun 1904 at St George's Church, Barnsley, Yorkshire
Henry Poxon died on 7 Oct 1916 in France. Henry was a Serjeant in the York and Lancaster Regiment. Before the war he was employed as a miner at Monk Bretton colliery. He enlisted on 7 August 1914 and served with the British Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from 13 April 1915. He was awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous gallantry on the field of battle and was accidentally killed on the Somme. He was mentioned in despatches by Field Marshall Sie Douglas Haig [London Gazette, 7 July 1916]. Buried in Foncqueville Military Cemetery. His Captain wrote: "Your husband was one of the bravest soldiers, one who never shirked work and always to his post [sic]. I watched his career and knew how he could be trusted; he was reliable in everything he undertook. We have been through many hard times together. God always pulled us through but to-day's affair is really too much for me. He was not only a soldier, but a man in every sense of the term".
Henry had three children: James Harris Poxon b 23 Oct 1904 (married Hilda Leach and had four children), William and Annie b 13 Sep 1912 (married to Harry Sanderson and later to Henry Kirby, she had one son John Sanderson b 1933).
Amy remarried in 1922 to John Ogden. They had a son Frank Ogden b 1924.
Regards
Mark Poxon
