Re: Poxon in Leicestershire
Hi
Ellen Poxon b 1828/1829 Castle Donington is the daughter of Samuel Poxon b abt 1789 Castle Donington and Susanna Long b abt 1789 Hathern, Leicestershire who married on 25 Dec 1812 in Castle Donington.
Samuel and Susanna had eight children (that I know of): Mary Ann (married Thomas Barrowdale), John, Samuel, Hannah (married Richard Hargreaves), Susanna (married Thomas Statham), James (b 1826 Castle Donington, married Mary Ann Start b abt 1825 Loughborough), Ellen (married John Bywater) and John.
James b 1826 is the grandfather of Colonel Sir George Albert Wade (mother Maria Start Poxon b abt 1862 Castle Donington), most famous for his connection with Wade Potteries.
James b 1826 is also the grandfather of George Wade Poxon b 1887 who emigrated to the USA in 1911 aged 24. George married Judith Furlong, and they established the Poxon Pottery business in Vernon, California. Their collectible commemorative plates became known as Vernon Ware.
