All of the names are familiar from my north Carolina research. I believe the James Powell that bought the land in Halifax in 1800 probably died around 1804-1805 because beginning in 1806 -1820 4 possibly 5 of his children sell their sixth of land received from their deceased father james powell. The first one to sell their 1/6th is Mitchell and Elizabeth Sory(Which makes me think Elizabeth was a Powell, daughter of James), then James Powell(obviously Jr) sells his 1/6th, then Daniel powell sells his 1/6th, then a Penelope and William Adkins or atkins sell their 1/6th, then Asenath Powell sells his 1/6th. If there were six children I have only found 5 land deeds that describe the same land and all say part of an original 149 acres. I really am trying to find out who the Elizabeth is that married my firth great grandfather Mitchell Sory. I have often wondered if the James powell sr was a brother to Aaron Powell in halifax county north Carolina.
