It was thought that Peter was one of the four sons of Martha Pawelczak (Pavelchak) and Theodore (Fedir) that immigrated to the United States from the Gladyszow (Gladyshiv) area of Galicia when it was under control of Austria. The two older brothers remained in New Jersey while Peter elected to settle in the Albany area of New York. The fourth brother is thought to have settled in Pennsylvania.
The daughter Catherine (Katarzyna), thought to be the first to arrive, and her husband Peter remained in New Jersey and also raised a large family. Another daughter, Anna, is thought to have settled in New York as did a half sister Mary who was the daughter of Anna Robsz

My security appears to have issues with Ancestry’s mail box hence the reply here. Hope your reading. Out of respect for the wishes of the elders, who would like to remain as is, I can not provide that. However, you may confirm the given name of Peter’s father by checking Peter’s SS Form 5 application of February 16, 1937 where he indicates the name of FRED for his father. Peter’s Petition for Naturalization #3824 of October 23, 1923 list the names and DOB for his 9 children that had been born to that date. The fathers name of THEODORE is indicated on the Death Certificate for Peter’s brother in New Jersey. The SS Form 5 filed by the half sister on January 19, 1937 indicates her father’s name as FRANK. Maybe what I was told has some truth; in the late 1800’s almost as many people spoke Ukrainian, in that region, as there were those who spoke Polish. I understand Theodore and Fedir are the English and Ukrainian equivalent of the name spelled with the Cyrillic alphabet. Whatever that may be I have no idea but the names FRANK and FRED may have been derived from FEDIR (MAYBE). If searching passenger manifest look for the travels of IVAN or maybe IWAN. Hope this helped.

Hello. I see that there is a Tedesco/Powanda family tree that has LaPietra family information. How can I access that tree? I believe I am related to the LaPietras in that family tree.

Surnames: Powanda
My fiance's grandmother was Marya Powanda (Nebeska)who lived in Yonkers. She came to this country in 1912 from Galacia. She thinks she remembers hearing as a child that she had family in albany. Marya's passenger record from ellis island states that her brother from New Jersey paid her fare.
