I have been researching Charles William Povell. Born Charles Povell mother Elizabeth in 1873 in Kirham Union Workhouse Fylde district.

I have found a possible sister/half sister - Mary Povell also born in same workhouse in 1870 - mother Elizabeth.

In 1871 census Mary Povell is boarded with Ryding family in Wharton, in same area Elizabeth Povall b 1853 from Nantwich in Cheshire is a servant - coincidence or is this the mother of both children. If anyone has any research that may help - I would be very interested as have drawn blanks with Charles/Charles William Povell until married for 1st time in Fylde in 1906 to Mary McSpirt.

Have you found any conclusion in this? Mary shows up in my tree also. Listed as Polly Barnett - which goes back to Mary - then listed as Mary Ryding and Mary Povell. when she came over to Providence RI she has a sister listed as Rollinson. Also she is listed as adopted on some census lists. Curious if you made any headway - all these years later. Thanks.

Hi
I have found out that Elizabeth Povall, mother of Charles William and Mary subsequently married Robert Titterington. I found Charles living with them at age 7 and then his widowed mother 10 years later. Elizabeth had more children but does not seem to have had any contact with Mary. Mary had a son Thomas Riding Pougher (mispelt name!) who lived with her adopted sister - I found his WW1 army records but seemed to have no contact with his mother. Do you think she emigrated - I will do more checking.

My secont great grandfather was William Hy Barnett. His wife is listed simply as Polly Barnett. It's pretty tricky to find anything clear to trace the next generation back.. I know she emigrated with her husband and children in 10/15/1909 into Boston port into Providence RI. There is a sister listed with last name Rollinson. My family tree books have her listed as: Death 12/1944 in Pawtucket, Providence, Rhode Island

Hi - had a quick look at census US 1910 - if it is your wh barnett - an iron moulder - they had been married 22 years ie 1888 but my Mary was single in 1891 so cannot be her. Pity I would love to solve my mystery. Have now sorted out my grandfather Charles William and his mother.

Have checked and found a marriage for a William Henry Barnet to Mary Litherland in Bolton in 1888 - think this is your couple. If same one she was born in Hayden in Lancashire.
