Was my great grandmother, her father was Daniel Poushay born abt 1846 married to a Ann Mcrey in Sydney(Cape Breton) Nova Scotia, Canada Sept 1899. Daniel came to Sydney by was of Ship which docked in Sydney Harbour with two other guys (one by the name Blackman). I dont know if Sydney was there original destination or where they came from. At the time the steel plant in sydney and the coal mines were a great draw for employment. Anyway Im hoping to find out more about the "Poushay's" My grandmother Anzonette died when her youngest child was 14, she is thought to have had a brain tumor or something is what I heard, at that time if you did not have the money to travel and pay for surgery I guess you didnt go. Hoping to hear back soon, Bonniemac

Hello, I am searching for my Pouchee family, living in London UK, about 1814. Do you have any connections with the family in the UK?
Jeanne.

Jeanne, I expect that the UK Pouchee Family will be related to my ancestors but I have never been able to find any links outside of the USA.
My earliest Pouchee records are for Gabriel Pouchée who married Sarah WIlliams on July 26, 1726 in Ipswich, Essex County, MA, USA. We believe Gabriel was born about 1706 in France. The Pushee, Pushie and Pushea families are descendents of Gabriel and Sarah Pouchée. The spelling of Pouchée was changed to Pushee by the first generation offspring of Gabriel and Sarah. Pushie and Pushea came later. Generally speaking there are more Pushee's in the US than in Canada and more Pushie's in Canada than in the US. Pushea is a very rare spelling in the US.
I'm very interested in leariing more about the Pouchee family in the UK. I noticed that if you search Ancestory.com for Pouchee there are a few hits. Last time I looked (several years ago) there were none.
I do have a hand written record somewhere of an Elizabeth Pushee getting married in St. Pauls, Coventy Garden (I think),in the mid 1800's. I'll post it when I find it.
Anxious to hear back from you.

Hi,
I saw you listed several spellings for the Pouchee family and was wondering if you had ever come across "Poushay." It seems to be very rare (in Canada at least, it is limited to my Grandfather direct descendants which is all of 10 people) and we have never come across anything to link it to other spellings other than its similarity in sound.

A few years ago I came across, online, an ancestral grave for a "Thomas Pouchee". I wish I had saved the source as to what cemetery and town it was in. All I can tell you is that it said Thomas Pouchee was born in France and died in 1745 at the age of 70. I do remember the grave was in NB and the town where it was...started with the letter B. What got me about this is if Thomas died in 1745 at the age of 70, it means he was born abt 1675. Gabriel Pouchee was b. abt. 1698 which means Thomas was approx. 23 when Gabriel was born. I have no proof but if the info I found is right then it is possible that Thomas is Gabriel's father.

Any chance it was Bouctouche? I just searched Google and found a list of cemeteries there. Unfortunately, there are a lot of them. I would love to hear from you regarding any further insight you may have on Thomas or Gabriel. Respectfully, Dale F. Pushee
