Shirley Janice (Potter) Swanson, daughter of Dwight B. and Edith (Batt) Potter, was born November 3, 1936 near Burt, Iowa. She attended country schools in the area until eighth grade and then attended school at Emmetsburg High School graduating in 1954.
Shirley was employed at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg for several years and then went to work at Duhn Body Shop where she did bookkeeping and secretarial work. She also was employed with Upper Des Moines Outreach.
Shirley enjoyed camping in her younger years. She also enjoyed working on the computer and staying current on political affairs. She appreciated music and loved crocheting. Shirley enjoyed watching various religious shows on television.
Shirley died Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at her home in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 70. She was preceded in death by her father, Dwight.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Deb Swanson of Manson, Iowa; two grandchildren, Jeremy and Nicholas Swanson; two great grandchildren, Madison and Kyler Swanson all of Manson, Iowa; her mother, Edith Potter of Emmetsburg, Iowa; two brothers, Dean Potter of Casa Grande, Arizona and Ronald Potter and his wife, Annette of Fostoria, Iowa; as well as many other relatives and friends.
