Trucker, Found Shot To Death

James Barton Porter, (age) 27, of 1098 Vaud Ave,. NE, Apt. 8, a truck driver, was found shot to death in his home at 5:45 a.m. Sunday, detectives reported Monday.

A .32 caliber pistol lay at the dead man's feet, according to Det. Sgt. L. L. House and Det. W. S. Acree, of the homicide squad. Powder burns surrounded a wound in the right temple, the officers' report stated.

Mrs June Porter, wife of the victim, was quoted by police as saying she and her husband had engaged in a quarrel shortly after 2 a.m. The quarrel continued after they had retired, she told officers, until her husband arose and took a pistol from a dresser drawer. She said she ran out into the hall, when she heard on shot inside the apartment. Her screams awakened the neighbors, who called police.

Officers said one discharged cartridge and tow live bullets were found in the pistol. A copy of the detective's report was furnished to the Fulton County coroner's office, police said. The report was labeled "man found shot."

Besides his wife, survivors incluce a step-daughter, Miss Sheila June Johnson; mother, Mrs Maggie Porter, both of Atlanta; sisters, Mrs. G. L. Waldon of East Point; Mrs R. Lukenheimer of Atlanta; Mrs G. Etheridge of Los Angeles, Calif.; brother(s), Clifford and David Porter of Atlanta; Aubrey Dunson of Durham, N. C.

Funeral services will be held ___day at 11 a.m. at Whotefoord(sic) ____e Baptist Church. The Rev. ____ McDonald will officiate, ___ _urial in Crestlawn Cemetery.
