Hi! Ferdinand Friedrick Wilhelm Porath, born Feb 10, 1851 in Germany (possibly Teschendorf, Pomerania, Germany) and died in Erie, PA on Dec 25, 1924 lists a Wilhelmina Giese as his mother and Frederick Porath as his father, both born in Germany. Do you have any more information? I don't see this newspaper online. Wondering if it's possibly his mother? Ferdinand and his family returned to Germany in 1912 and coming back, brought my Great Grandfather & his new wife and Ferdinand's sister's daughter and her husband (Franz and Marie Roestel). Both list Ferdinand as their uncle on the ship's records and from Ferdinand's son's family history letter. In that same letter, it states that Ferdinand had 6 brothers (including Johann in Berlin, Herman in Hamburg, and 1 in Saxony) and a sister.

Don't think this is the same family but won't rule anything out. I have found only 3 daughters for my Wilhelmina and Frederick Porath. My Poraths were from the area around Noeblin and Silbersdorf-Woltersdorf, Saatzig in Pommerania. Wilhelmina's full name was Johanne Wilhelmine Caroline Giese. Fredericks's full name was Erdmann Friedrich Ferdinand Porath. Both born aprox 1822. I haven't found any other siblings but the three daughters.
They came to the US in 1871 and lived in Wisconsin for a while before moving to the Dakota Territory (South Dakota) in the 1880s. Fred died in 1892 and Wilhelmina died in 1895.

I looked up Teschendorf. Seems there was one in either Regenwalde or Dramburg. Both of these places are next to Saatzig. I did a quick look on FamilySearch for records in Teschendorf for Porath in 1851, didn't see one. But I just may have overlooked it.

Ferdinand Friedrich Wilhelm Porath and his family had noted on the Westphalia's papers (via Castle Garden, arrived 11 Oct 1884) that they were headed to Wisconsin but for some reason they settled in Erie, PA. Interesting coincidence? It's possible that his son Rev. Paul Emil Porath, the informant on his death certificate, was mistaken on Ferdinand's parents' names. Ferdinand's wife Johanna Louise Caroline Pergande Porath was still alive when Ferdinand passed on, but she may have not been consulted or able to confirm Paul's information.

Per the written oral history doc of Rev. Paul Porath family given to me by his son, Paul notes that Ferdinand was born in Teschendorf in the Regenwalde province of Prussia.

I wish I had more info on my Great Grandfather's parents other than their names and that they lived in Berlin at the time of Hans' birth that could also help cement relationships, etc but I have yet to find anything definitive.

Note: My Great Grandfather was Hans Max Georg Porath. His parents per his birth certificate were Johann Wilhelm Friedrich Porath and ? Augusta Johanna Falk (couldn't read her first name). In case those names look familiar.
