Am trying to sort out the family of my gr-grandparents, Moses Poquette/Paquette and Delphine St.Louis who lived at Spalding/Powers, Michigan, from ca. mid-1880s on. Would like to correspond with anyone related to that family. Am interested in both ancestors and descendants.

I am also trying to locate my family of Spaulding MI, My great-grandmother is Rosanna Poquette. Does her name correspond with your family? She was married to Edmund Depotsie. Please let me know either way. Thanks, Lisa

I am the daughter of Josephine Depotsie (maiden name), whose mother's maiden name was Rosanna Poquette of the Powers- Spaulding area in the U.P. of Michigan. I hope this helps you. We too are looking for relatives. I hope to hear from you.

hello lisa & sue -
roseanne, or roseanna, was my grandmother's sister. that is, if we're talking about the same person. she was one of at least 7 children of moses poquette & delphine st-louis (known in quebec as moise paquet & delphine filiatrault, dit st-louis) who lived at spalding, michigan. i don't have any information on who she married, so you know more than i do. the name "depotsie" sounds vaguely familiar from when i was a kid, like i heard it mentioned. can you tell me where that family lived?
there is a fair amount of information on both sides of roseanne's ancestry, however, which i'll happily share with you.
it's good to connect with cousins, thanks for replying to my msg.
j.

hi sue,
thanks for replying to my post. see my response to lisa, above. we're probably talking about the same person, who would be my grand-aunt. do you have vital statistics for her? e.g. birth & death dates, marriage date/location, where they lived, etc? unfortunately, all my mother could tell me was her name, no dates or other information. some of that poquette family went to wisconsin, i know, while others remained in the u.p.

It is great to hear from you. I hope we are talking about the same woman. All we know for sure is that they were from Spaulding, MI. That is where my grandmother, Josephine Depotsie was raised. We have only just begun our search. Any info. from you would be wonderful. Thanks, Lisa

it seems likely that we're talking about the same roseanne poquette. for starters, i've not seen mention of any other people by that name in the spalding. (oh, yeah....spalding is spelled w/o a "u")
"my" roseanne had the following siblings that i know of:
mary (my grandmother), otto, james, elmere (or elmire), joseph, and wilfred. someone else i've corresponded with says there is also a paul, along with a couple of others, but the foregoing list is based upon my mother's information.
my grandmother was born in st. phillip, quebec, in 1871. the family was in the u.p. by 1875. if memory serves me correctly, only mary and one of her sibs were born in canada, the rest were born on the farm in spalding.
(sorry, i've not been actively researching this for awhile, because of other committments, so i'm trying to remember "on the fly.")
do you have any info at all on "your" roseanna? i have mary's sister listed as "roseanne" only because that's what mother said her name was. mother had very specific memories of her aunts & uncles, but i only knew 1 or 2 when i was quite young.

ps....are your grt-grandparents buried at spalding? i've been over the township cemetary - the only cemetary - quite thoroughly, but would not have known to look for the depotsie name.

Hi Jim, It's certainly good to hear from a cousin! I have very limited info, but I can tell you her children's names. They are as follows: Louise, Mary, Eva, Joseph, Oliver, Emma, Josephine, Anna-Mae, and Alda. I have a picture of her somewhere, I'll look it up and send you a copy. They were raised in Spalding, MI. I'll keep you posted on anything else that I can dig up. By the way, Lisa is my daughter. Thanks, Jim! Sue

hi sue....
i assumed you and lisa were related.....but i guessed you were sisters. you both look so young from here. ;-)

could you email me dates, etc, of roseanne's family? that way we won't take up msg board space. that would help me fill up my tree. i, in turn, will happily share the ancestry i have for both moses, delphine, and other family members.
i have a family photo taken around 1920, or earlier, with all of them together. be happy to send you a copy or scan of it.

nice to meet cousins.
where are you located?
cheers,
j.
