I'm new to this whole geneology thing. I just thought it would be interesting to trace back my ancestry and see what i find. I'm from southern Illinois. My father is Jim Rodney Popejoy. His father(my grandfather) is Jim Robert Popejoy. All from southern Illinois. Any information at all would be appreciated. Thanks.

father. Let me know if you are interested
in receiving it and if you can read a DOC
file.

I saw your offer to another person about sending them information in a MS format. Could you send me that information? I am having a terrible time finding information about my great-grandfather's family. His name was William Popejoy and he was probably born in Osage, IA in 1869. His family (only the men) moved to Indiana in the late 1880s and after the 1890s changed their last name to Lovejoy (there is a story behind that!).

Anyway, I can find almost no information prior to 1869.

Anything you have would probably be of value.

Thank you for your help!

Liz I just saw your message today - sorry.
If you can give some more info about your
William (middle name, wife, children, grand
children) I will look in the 2 Popejoy books
to see if I can help. Unfortunately William
is the most prolific Popejoy and it would
take days to try to find your William in
the books I have.

Vicki,

William's father's name was Andrew Jackson Popejoy (listed in the 1870 census in Osage, Iowa - Mitchell County - as Jackson). He had a sister named Margaret, and I believe one named Lucinda and perhaps Clarissa???. His mother's name was Sarah. He had brothers by the name of Clarence, Charles and one other that I can't remember. William's first wife was Elizabeth. His second was Julia. His third (my ggrandmother) was Margaret (Maggie Simmons Street). His fourth wife was named Maria, as was his FIFTH wife. As far as I know, the only children he ever had were Harry, who was raised under the name of Harry Feaster and then my grandfather, Charles Popejoy - later changed to Lovejoy........I hope this helps.

I looked in my Popejoy books but don't think
I found anything.
There is only one Andrew Jackson Popejoy
listed in the Popejoy Past and Present book
(page 261) and none in the other. His name
is all that appears, no birthday, spouse,
etc. He appears to be the 12th child
(between 1876 and 1880) of John Andrew
Jackson Popejoy and his second wife Nancy R.
McAdams both born and died in Indiana. None
of the other names turned up any links.

There is probably better information at the

Saints web site:

All of these [#] names are found there:

Their children:

Harry Popejoy == Harry Feaster
Charles Popejoy == Lovejoy.

John and Nancy McAdams are my GRT GRT Grandparents. I have a book on the Popejoy family also. I think it has some different things than yours, so together we should have a good picture of the family. Mine has Martin VanBuren and his family line.
