There used to be a town, either in HARDY CO. VA or FAYETTE
CO. OHIO named Joyville after your family. They were in VA around 1750 to 1800, when everyone started moving west. My ffamily went west some them to FAYETTE, PICKAWAY, & DELAWARE
OHIO with them. My family ended up in Prairie township,
KOSCIUSKO INDIANA and some went to central ILLINOIS around
the eastern border.

It's been years since I saw this message, and read other peoples additions to them. It gave a idea to first ask where in southern IL your family was from.
Now I'm going to tell you a well-known story.
IN 1798, Rev. David BADGELY lead large group of people from HARDY CO VIRGINIA to New Design, MONROE CO. IL. He was married to a Rhoda VALENTINE. They were both from either NewJersey or Long Island NY. It was a very WET year and with the bugs biting 50% of the people caught the fever and died just after they reach their destination. The people seemed to be getting married as soon as they got there, possibly to replace a mate that died, as it was hard to get along without a mates help back then, especially if there were children involved. Some of the folks moved on
to ST.CLAIR CO around 1800-03, where alot of them lived for awhile. There were so many names that I can remember, but
they found in other areas I research any of my family, be it
HAND or CARR.
After a generation some moved on to JACKSON, MADISON, and other surrounding areas. Some to the south-east border
by the rivers, where some of them became somewhat pirates.
Around 1840, some moved on to MO, some further north in
ILLINOIS.
Go to your local library and order a inner library book
on the HISTORYS OF MONROE, RANDOLPH and especially ST.CLAIR
CO. My CARR family came along on this pilgrimage, and they
where related to POPEJOYS, DAVIS, SHOBE,
HIRE/HYER/HEYER/HIER, PETERSON, CREAMER, COX, PHILLIPS,
WILDERMAN,HIGGINS, HARPER, ALEXANDER, GRUBB, GARRISON, BOND, HAND, and so many other families. Give it a try, or
just type history of ST.CLAIR CO. ILLINOIS and see what
that gets you.
that came along on this ride.

Please MAKE YOUR SELF CLEAR. I have Pope/Popejoy back to
1750 in AUGUSTA/HAMSHIRE/HARDY CO's same place, just changes in the boundaries and names.
Popejoys (some shortened to POPE) came to Ohio, PICKAWAY, FAYETTE & DELEWARE CO'S around 1807, some were in ROSS CO EARLIER. Some went out KOSCIUSCO/Elkhart co. in Indiana.

Then there were the ones who left A early, 1798 and ended up
in TN, KY and Monroe COUNTY ILL, with Rev. David Badgely.
some of them moved on to ST. CLAIR CO. around 1803.
