John Hardy Pope of Coffee Co, TN is the son of Sarah Bradley Carson Pope 1788-1866 and Hardy Pope 1770-1840. Source: War of 1812 Pension Application for Sarah Pope, widow of Samuel Carson. Sarah Bradley married Samuel Carson in Davidson/Williamson Co, TN in 1811. Samuel Carson died in service of the US in 1815, after contracting measles in New Orleans; he died on the steam boat on the Mississippi River on the way home. Sarah Carson married Hardy Pope in Bedford Co. TN in 1830. Hardy Pope died in Bedford Co. in 1840. Sarah had a daughter Cyrena with Samuel Carson in 1813, and Cyrena apparently never married. She & Sarah are in John H. Pope's HH in 1860 Coffee Co. Sarah had possibly two other daughters with Samuel Carson; and a son & daughter with Hardy Pope. The Samuel Carson/Sarah Pope Pension App. has numerous witnesses attesting to her identity, and names children John H. Pope, Elvira (Carson) Read, Lucinda Ward, and Sarah J. (Pope) Coleman. I haven't figured out who Lucinda Ward is yet; the only one I know of is Lucinda Patterson b. 1817 who married William Carroll Ward. Lucinda & W C Ward lived in Bedford Co. near Hardy Pope, & Burrell Ward in 1840. Working on transcribing these records; there are 64 pages in all. I FINALLY FOUND THE HOLY GRAIL!
