Hi Cyndi
My dad's name was George Popa and he grew up in Canton, Ohio..as far as I know his dad (my grandpa Popa) had only 2 sons..my dad and his brother John..but, John Popa died in the early 60's I think..I'll look it up and if I found out anything new..I'll let you know ok? Both my mom and dad's parents were born in Romania..my dad's mom's name was Sophia Popa..she died in Boulder City, NV..around 1988 or somewhere around there. Would like to know if maybe, you are related to me! Margie

Margie-
as I'm writing this I don't have your message in front of me anymore, but the John Popa that I'm looking for info about did die in '63, but I can't imagine that if Sophia was his mother, that she could have been alive untill 1988, as John (my grandfather) was born in 1887 (in Romania) But please respond again and thanks for your message.

HI..

Wanted to let you know that my grandma Sophia Popa was born in Bucharest, Romania on Sept. 20, 1893...she died at a good (late) age of 95! On Oct. 20, 1988 in Boulder City, Nevada...where my dad George G. Popa lived with my mom Margaret Popa. Does this help at all? Margie (named after my dear mom).

Popas, still...

Margie,
That looks familiar, but only because you had responded before. Sophia's married name was Popa?? (I'm assuming that because her son/ your father was a Popa) If her maiden name had been Popa, possibly. What was her husbands name? My mom said she thinks that maybe her father had a brother or some relatives in America, but that is all I have to go on. The John Popa I'm looking for was born in 1887 and was 57 when my mom was born, so it's possible that he had a first wife/ family that I havn't found yet. I did find many messages in the Pope message boards, but sort of discouraged. My mom's mother's parents were Waskalis and born in Lithuania, and I'm starting to feel that I'm the only one on earth searching that name!!
Thanks for your replies, If I ever find a connection, I'll post it here, OK? Cyndi

Cyndi,
I can't believe this, my great grandmother was Anna Waskalis of Akron. I used to visit her as a child, she had a Chawawa that didn't like children. She would hold it in her lap the whole time we were there. I'm sure I'm not spelling this right but she used to make us Bunduckies and Osookies. Her daughters were Anna and Margaret. Margaret was my grandmother. She married Everett Bovey. They had Robert Bovey, my dad. Please tell me your mother's name is Carol Sue.
