Hi Cyndi, I have been doing my family tree and came across your inquiry with the Popa name. My mom was related to the Popa family in Ohio, in the Youngstown area...I believe
I know his name was John and he had a daughter whose name was Mary Ann and grand daughter whose name was Cynthia...could that be you? My mom's records has a John Popa Jr, b 1920 and d 1962 or 63. Could this be the John Popa you are looking for?

Karen,
I can't really rule that out, except that my grandfather was born in 1885 in Romania, but died in '63 in Akron. lived in Akron from at least '43 till death, not sure where he was earlier than that or when he came to U.S. email me directly if you want, do you have more info that might pin this down?
I found that "John Popa" was more common than I thought especially in Akron, but your recollection (or your mother's) certainly has similar coincidences ~ I wasn't born untill '72, so don't know if that Cynthia is me or not, please reply!! cyndi

Hello, I am researching my husband's genealogy. His father was born in Wisconsin and he is of Romanian, Polish and German descent. My husband's father's name is Adrian Edmund Popa and was born in 1934 in S. Milwaukee, WI. His father is Damascus Popa and his mother's Catherine Frank. You might be related to my husband's family.

Cyndi or Margie,
I don't know if this person would be related to you or not, but it is from the same general area of Akron-Canton. Below is a post that I made in another thread.

I am trying to locate a descendant of Simon Popa born Aug 22, 1877 in Romania.. I have some original documents that belonged to him. I am not a relative, but I would like to see them go to a family member that might find them useful. I have in my possession, his immigration papers from Romania, a marriage certificate (I think as it is all in Romanian), his military passport, and a personal letter which is writtin in Romanian. I also have 2 photograph which may be of him. His name was Spiridon Popa befor he had it changed to Simon when he immigrated. Please contact me at itu@mchsi.com

Margie,
I, too, am interested in the Popa lineage as my great-great-great-grandmother was a Popa. Her name was Maria and she married a Sheurlein. I thought it may be German or Czech but DNA says Cypriot-Jew or possibly Turkish-Jew. If you haven't explored that area of your heritage, you may give a thought. Best of luck.
