Hi im trying to find out any information on Alfred Richard Pook born 8 Dec 1846 in Greenwich Kent and his wife Fanny Emily Clements

Re: Pook's in New Zealand
Alfred Richard Pook married Fanny Elizabeth Clements on the 6th November 1870 and they were living with his parents, Alfred James and caroline Pook (nee Paget) in 1871 and had their first child, Benjamin James in 1871 but he died the following year after which they had Alfred Henry in 1874 and James in 1879. They do not appear on the 1881 census so I presume they emigrated to New Zealand soon after the birth of James. I also have info. that there were several more children born later and that Alfred and Fanny both died in 1920. Alfred Henry became a captain.
If you can elaborate on any of this I would be very grateful for it so that I can then add it to my records of the family(No 462)in my database of Pook families. These are not relatives of mine. If you would like more info backwards I could help you with it.

Re: Pook's in New Zealand
Hi I am a great-grandaughter of Edwards James Pook. He as a fisherman on the Kaipara in the early 19's - (there is a chapter about him in a book - I think it was called "All the Rivers Run". My Grandfather was the eldest, also Edward James Pook of 8 or 9 children. My great-grandfather divorce my GG/ma and marrined a maori lady and had in total 25 children. He Grandad had to work for his father so support his mother and siblings. My GG/dad and his second family lived on his second's wife's land - at Pahi point on the Kaipara harbour. My mother the eldest daughter of Edward (Ted) James Pook and Emily Launder - there were six in the family. They lived in Auckland. One of my g/dads brothers was Clement (Clem) he was the last to die and lived in Auckland. My G/dad died in 1991

Re: Pook's in New Zealand
I did a Google search for 'All the Rivers Run' and it only referred to an Australian TV mini-series taken from a novel. Is that the book you refer to? James Edward Pook (1878-1948)was one of the family mentioned by C J Booth (8 Jun 2011)and your grandfather was one of his 8 or 9 children. Do you know his two wives names as I can only record the info if I know the names of parents. Any other names and their marriage partners allow me to progress with my index, particularly those males with the Pook name. The second Edward must have had a lucrative occupation to be able to support 25 children. Do you know how many were to each wife? What was your mother's name and the other five children. I do not pass on any details of living people other than their names,to other researchers. Thanks for your information and best wishes for 2012. Terence

Re: Pook's in New Zealand
Hi there
My grandmother was Maria Gertrude Pook and she was the daughter of Gertrude Margaretta and Edward (Ted) Pook. My father is still living in Hamilton and I am very interested in the Pook side of the family. I have a copy of 'All the Rivers Run' and found it fascinating to read about the family there.
Best regards Neroli
