ROCKWELL CITY, Iowa -- Donald Poncelow, 82, Rockwell City, died Monday, July 5, 2004, at Stewart Memorial Hospital, Lake City.
Memorial services were Wednesday, July 7, at the Lampe Funeral Home, Lake City. Flag presentation was by the Lake City Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. Private burial will be held at a later date. There was no visitation.
Mr. Poncelow was born March 31, 1922, in Council Bluffs, the son of Merle and Mary Hunter Poncelow. He married Bonnie Mefferd April 20, 1951, in Papillion, Neb.
He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, Council Buffs, in 1940.
He entered the U.S. Army Feb. 17, 1943, and separated Jan. 6, 1946. He was awarded two Bronze Stars and an Army Accommodation Medal.
He worked for several different railroads operating machinery.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters; Paula Wagaman and husband, Barry, of Fulton, Mo., Pat Foughty and Darren Voss of Lake Park and Pam Pollreisz and husband, Kenny, of Ethan, S.D.; a son, Tim Poncelow and wife, Carol, of Joy, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Pat Rogers and Marie Conner, both of Council Bluffs, Alberta Hough of Columbus, Ohio, and Janet Kennedy of Portage, Ind.; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Poncelow of Omaha, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Merle and Bill Poncelow; and four brothers-in-law, Mick Hough, Jack Rogers, Jim Kennedy and Cliff Conner.
