I am searching for any Pomazals, though primarily from the Chicago area. Am looking especially for my great-grandfather John (Johan) (Jan) Pomazal who immigrated to the US from Bohemia in 1880 and who died in 1899.

Hello,

My Grandmothers maiden name was Helen ?pomeisl?. I just started this branch of my family and do not have a lot of information, yet. I do remeber her talking about her grandparents from Bohemia.
I suspect the folks at Ellis Island changed the spelling of the name But i will give you that information as it comes along.
As i receive information i will share it with you.

send me an email.

Thanks.

June Eggleston--the names you listed don't sound like any I have ever run across. I will forward them to another Pomazal who might know. I do not know from what city my great-grandfather came. No one talked a lot about him as I was growing up and he died in 1899. Did your family retain the Pomajzl spelling? Please e-mail me directly. Thanks much, Jeanne Rose

I have not seen that spelling of my name, but it is likely that names got spelled differently once they arrived here. Records of my great-brandfather and his siblings however do use Pomazal spelling. Am not sure I am much help to you. Sincerely, Jeanne Rose

Hi Jeanne, (I didn't have your email address) When my Grandmother came to the states, they changed the name to POMAS, they were originally from Lidice, Czechoslovakia (The city is no longer there, it was burned down)

Pomas

My mother's uncle, the Polish side of my family, changed his name from Pokrzywinski to Poker. Is that better??? Thanks for the reply. There are a fair number of Pomazals around, no one quite sure how they are related to the next. As I said, I do not know where in Bohemia the 3 brothers and sister came from. And I am sure that information from Bohemia, like yours, is long gone. JR

Hi Andrew,
Would you by chance be related to John Joseph Pomazal Jr. who was born in 1925 in Mauston? I can be reached at sjstanek@pressenter.com. Jim.
