My grandfather Atillio was born in Silvi Italy which is a part of Termo (I believe). He was born in March 1886. He came to the Rhode Island- USA in 1912. He was the son of Francesco Saverio Pomante and Annarella Collini or Collina. Rhode Island is not far from Canada. I do not know if he had any brothers. It is possible that we may be related as a lot of names were spelled differently when people came through customs. If you look at the Italian yellow pages there are thousands of Pomante's in Silvi and Termo. I havn't noticed any spelled with an "i" My grandfather pronounced our name with an "i" at the end po mon ti. My grandfather came to the US on a ship called the Canada on June 25, 1912. I have his ship passenger papers. Does your father know if your grandfather had any brothers.

I just learned from my mother that my grandfather, Atillio Pomante had a brother who lived in Canada.
|
My Mother also tells me that my grandfather Umberto had a brother who lived in the U.S. but died in Italy. She said his name was Saverio But she does know if any of our relatives spelled their name with an e on the end. Most of my Dad's relations lived in Toronto. Al Pomanti

My grandfather's Atillio was the son of Saverio Pomante who was married to Anna Collina. They lived in Silvi Italy. But I don't think he ever came to the U.S. because Atillio left his three sons after his first wife died with Saverio and Anna when he first came to the U.S. and then went back for them later.

I would quess our families are not directly related but it is interesting look up and meet other people with the same or close to same last name.We know that people could not say the name they just changed it to something easy, as in my grandfather's his Scottish boss did not like Umberto so he just changed it to Bob.Also the spelling of our surname is Pomanti but we all say it Pomante. Thank you Al
