Rita R. Scully Pol, 84, Erie,Pa, daughter of the late William and Margaret (Wolfram) Scully.
Rita R. Scully Pol, 84, lifelong resident of Erie,Pa, died peacefully on March 12, 2013 at St. Mary's Home of Erie East. She was born on September 5, 1928, daughter of the late William and Margaret (Wolfram) Scully. Rita graduated from St. Patrick's Grade School (1942), Villa Maria Academy (1946), and St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing (1953). She worked at St. Vincent Hospital, St. Mary's Home, and Hamot Hospital; and later spent 28 years at General Electric where she was head nurse when she retired in 1989. Rita was a member of Zonta II, American Nurses Association, NW Chapter Occupational Health Nurses Association, PA Occupational Health Nurses Association, and Villa Maria Academy Alumni Association. Rita was a gentle person and her patients were blessed to receive such compassionate and loving care. In her unofficial role of neighborhood nurse, "Mrs. Pol" also tended to many bumps, bruises, and cuts throughout her career. Rita was very proud of her Irish heritage, famous for her delicious sweet bread and nut roll, and always enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends. Some of her fondest memories were times spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Anthony A. Pol in 1991. Survivors include four children, Jane Chase, husband Mike, of Harborcreek, Tony Pol, wife Chris, Patty Buszek, husband Mark Zielewski, and Matt Pol, wife Ellie, all of Erie; ten grandchildren, Michael Chase, Cassidy Orvik (Brad), Emily de la Guerra (Jason), Tony Pol (Marcy), Kyle Chase, Riley Buszek, Ashley Pol (Rick), Kathleen Pol, Nathan Pol & Joey Pol; five great-grandchildren, Dominic, Brandon & Isaac de la Guerra, and Jackson &Ashlyn Orvik. She is also survived by two sisters, Jeanne Torrance and Ann Marie Chojanacki; five brothers,Edward Scully of Upland, Calif., Jerome Scully of Union City, Thomas, William& Dennis Scully all of Erie; sister-in-law Theresa Frackowiak; Marilyn Pol, mother of three of her grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Razanauskas Funeral Home, 701 East Avenue and are invited to a prayer service there on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. James Catholic Church at ten o'clock. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
