Hi John,
I am really happy for you....I know this message is late in coming, but even though I have been a member with ancestry.com for a couple of years now, I never explored the community area.
I, too, have been researching Poje here in the US...New York to be exact. My mother's paternal grandmother was Mary (Marija) Poje. She married Peter Sbaschnig. Her brother, Joseph (Josip) Poje, married Peter's sister, Mary (Marije). Peter was from Wien (Vienna) and we always thought that the Pojes were from Austria also. Just in the last 5 months or so, I realized that the Pojes were from Slovenia, I just do not know where, yet. There were also some other family (i.e. nephews) who came over from "Austria", "Jugoslavia", the country of origin on the census varied greatly from year to year, depending upon what was going on with Austro-Hung Empire, WWI, and WWII....which has made things very confusing at times, but led to a rediscovery of the history of the countries in Europe.
If you have any information / leads you can lend to me, I would greatly appreciate any and all. I would love to be able to get my mother to be able to reconnect with family
Best of Luck, and would love to hear about your reunion. We are planning a trip to Germany, Austria, and (now) Slovenia!
