I am seeking family history on the name Poje.

I am the son of Joseph Poje (aka Josip Poje)
b 11th Feb 1903 in Prose, (in what was Austria but is now Slovenia. He was the son of Maria (and possibly Abraham Poje). A Civil servant he served in the Jugoslav cavalry and was forced into labor for the Nazis in Berlin during WW II where he may have worked as a cook. He returned to Jugoslavia after the war but left for England shortly afterwards.

I would appreciate any information on relatives or anyone who knows more of the family history!

Thanks

John Poje

You may recall an exchange of emails. Hope you are still receiving information. You said we weren't related; I think we are.

Anton Poje, born c. 1870 in Prose (aka Preza) 8, Morobitz, Gottschee, Austria was my father's (Josef Poje) father. Anton was the son of Georg Poje and Gertrud Oswald and married Maria Macher on July 22, 1894 in Morobitz, Gottschee, Austria.

Maria Macher, born Abt. 1871 in Niedertiefenbach#42, Morobitz, Gottschee, Austria. She was the daughter of Bartolomeus Macher and 11. Maria Ofak.

Anton and Maria had three children:
(1) Josef Poje, born March 09, 1873 in Altwinkel, Austria; married Magdalena Macher May 22, 1898 in Morobitz, Gottschee, Austria; born December 22, 1875 in
Niedertiefenbach#42, Morobitz, Gottschee, Austria.

(2) Anton Poje, born Abt. 1870 in Prose#8, Morobitz, Gottschee, Austria; married Maria Macher July 22, 1894 in Morobitz, Gottschee, Austria.

(3) Julia Poje, born c 1877 in Altwinkel, Austria 6; married Peter Wolf August 25, 1901 in All Saints' Church, Brooklyn, NY, US; born Abt. 1873.

Notes for Julia Poje: probably went to US on La Normandie in 1898, from Prose. Emigration: September 19, 1898, Ellis Island, NY, US

Please let me know if you get this: I have more info! And I am going to Slovenia next week!

Hello John,
I have reviewed all the information I have on documented sources and still have no exact matches.
1. My Grandmother, Antonja Poja Wolf ( born 1875)lists her Father as Anton Wolf and her Mother as Maria Lipovic. ( on marriage license to Johan Wolf 1922 USA)
2. She listed herself as a widow and her first husband was Blasze (SP)Poje.
3. On immagration papers (1922) she lists home as S^trigova. She came with son Oskar Poja (son) age 14 my Father, to marry a Jonan Bridges Wilf (Wolf) in Cleveland Ohio, USA. Which she did. Another son Ludvig remained in Ludbreg Croatia.
4When my Father became a citizen of USA in 1934 he listed his Father as Blaze Poje and Mother as Antonja Poje Wolf.
5. According to my Mother Antonja left USA and returned to Europe prior to my parents marriage in 1931.
As you can see names do not correspond. The year of Antonja's birth, 1875 , fits but nothing else.
It is a brick wall from this side. Did Anton have another wife? Mistress? Oskar and Ludwig used the Poje name.
I did receive info on Croatia but this did not help.
Still Looking,
Dolores
