Hi- Vicki-
My grandmother was the first American girl to be the Premiere Danseuse at the Metropolitan Opera House and the Youngest in the world- 1912-15. I have all of her professional materials and have been carrying them around since she died and willed them to me over 30 years ago. I wanted to do something with them, and did not realize that nothing is written about her in dance history, except that she is mentioned in a few dance magazines. I live across the street from Brigham Young University, and as a result of a conversation with a neighbor/professor, I approached the head of the ballet dept there and she and I have taken it on as a research project to write several books about her career and life, and insert her in ballet history. I have been researching her family for 6 years ( I grew up with her), as well as her ancestors. I just came back from my third time in NYC to do research-, althoug the second time I went to a workshop to learn how to research in NYC. This last one lasted a month ( am still recuperating) and was funded by BYU and was a great but very hard working experience. I want to go back to finish up a few things, but it is so expensive. Anyway, it has been a huge blessing in my life and I feel like I am doing something very important for my grandmother, whom I loved dearly. She was certainly not the typical grandmother image, as you might imagine, a little bit eccentric, but a wonderful woman whom everyone considered their best friend.
We want to write one book for children to interest them in ballet. A fun but very time consuming project, as I have to put it all in the context of history and social culture, and Sandy has to research ballet of that time- not much is known about it at that time- it was a transition time in ballet.

Merry Christmas to you- Sue

So her mother's mother was Elizabeth Pohle- and now I am curious to know more but somewhat constrained to concentrate more on the immediate family, although i have found out quite a bit about the ancestors.

I wish you all the best for your books.

Merry Christmas to you too.

Reply to: "Hello All Pohles". My name is Robert Pohle, third generation Pohle in USA. My post of 10 Dec 2006 has details of my ancestry: Hermann Pohle, b. about 1831, emigrated to USA from Oldenburg, Germany about 1854. Have never located his parents or siblings, but wish to.

Good Morning, "Lock Guy" and other Pohle descendents.

My Hermann Heinrich Pohle was born 29 Oct 1848. His parents are Johann Heinrich Pohle born 15 Jun 1822 and was married to Anna (Anne) Maria Ilsabein Baumeier on 06 Aug 1844 in Evangelisch, Roedinghausen-Kirche, Westfalen, Preussen. This family came from Duenne, Westphalia, Germany (Anna Baumeier came from Minden, Westphalia, Germany).

Hermann was my great grandmother's brother. The siblings that I have found are Anna Catharine Marie Pohle (b. 6-26-1857); Friedrich Wilhelm Pohle (b. 3-30-1852); Jobst Heinrich Pohle (b. 1-14-1861); and, Hermann Heinrich Pohle (b. 10-29-1848).

Anna (Mary) Catharine Marie Pohle (my great grandmother, who changed her name to Mary when she was naturalized in the U.S.). She was born 26 Jun 1857 in Duenne, Germany and died 04 Jul 1921 in Blue Hill, Webster County, Nebraska. She married Carl (Charles) Augustus Ludewig(Ludwig) Gestring (b. 10-02-1847 in Klosterbauerschaft, Westphalia, Germany) on 28 Jun 1876 in Stift, Evangelisch, (Buende) Quernheim, Westfalen, Preussen (Germany).

My great grandparents immigrated to the U.S. in 1881 and arrived in Indiana then emmigrated to Nebraska.

Also, long ago my grandmother made the statement that all Pohle's and Gestring's are related. Does any of this help?

Sincerely,

Vicki Bremmer

Good Morning, Lenkaba.

I was told that I am part Czechloslavakian (from Bohemia), but I have not found that connection as of yet.

I wish us all luck in finding the common ancestor that connects all of our Pohle roots.

Sincerely,

Vicki Bremmer
