The editor of the Buffalo Genealogy Soc. Journal, extracted marriages
from a file at the Historical Society - just clippings that appeared
in newspapers c. 1811 - 1884 and she only cited the paper where
these marriages can be found so you would have to check the
film of the paper for more information. In looking over the names of
interest to you, I noted this one because of the rarity of the name
POH. Also, the Library extracted all deaths that were listed at
the back of city directories 1882-1892. The BCA is on microfilm - the Library will
extract for $5 plus copy & SASE.
Marriage: Lewis POH to Philipene HOUSCH 22 Feb 1847
(Buffalo Commercial Advertiser 9 Mar 1847)
Death: Philippena POH, 78y, 28 Feb 1884
** Again note my information that I found is still considered circumstantial from a genealogy stand point because I have not yet found vital records or proofs to back up my claims... but it seems based on my finds this is what I see as happened so far unil proven otherwise.

Philippina married my Great great Uncle Valintine Ziegler. She is buried in the United German & French Cemetery. She also had a son Jacob Feth. She had many Ziegler children who married into the following families: Schuster, Muchen, and Leffler.
Our Louis POH father of the only POH we knew when I first started this endeavor - Big Ed , or Edward POH that lived with Elizabeth MANG, was born in Hesse Darmstadt in 1833.
He is the same age as the Louis POH entry of 1880 with Susan living on Mulberry Street. Louis POH here is listed as Brass Polisher.
A side note - It seems sad to me that Otto POH died Jan. 25, 1875 and then the census was taken. I found his death entry at the end of the ward where they lived in the census. Catherine made the census as it was taken in June - but then by November she died.

POH - In this city , on the 15th inst. CATHARINE, wife of Louis Poh, aged 39 years, 3 months and 23 days. Funeral Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from St. Paul's ( German) Church. Friends and acquaintances are invited to attend.
*** Now this church will open the door to our family church records - I believe. Ken? Are these locally where you live or do I need to order them?
Based on the entry of the obit - the church is called St. Paul's ( German) Church. I would guess that it is referring to the records that are connected with Cleveland Hill United Methodist Church, Buffalo, NY ( FHL film #1764710) and not the Episcopal St. Paul's that is referred to as a Cathedral ( FHL film # 928705).
I don't think that it is St. Paul's and St. Mark's Church of Christ as I have already veiwed these film records and saw no related folks in them. What do you all think? Interesting and wierd how I save a entry for St. Paul's Church ( E.S) from the 1875 Census - strange to me... but really neat now that we have a possible connect.
I spent most of the afternoon going through the 1880 Census for wards 5 and 6 for Louis POH where our dear Herrmann ancestors mostly lived - on East Side Buffalo turf... and came across a Louis POH age 47 married to a gal name Susan age 22 with a daughter - Susan age 2 and a son George age 10. (George was the baby of the family. He was 2 months old in 1870 and only 5 years old in 1875 when his mother died at the age of 39.) George remained with his father. Otto Poh had died of Scarlet Fever in 1875. Mary Poh would have been age 14 in 1880. I am not sure what happened to her yet or where she is living. She never married and died April 19, 1892. That leaves the eldest son, Louis Poh Jr. - about 25 - old enough to be on his own.
I had found the record of this above Louis POH before but set it aside because I did not yet know enough about our POH family yet.
Now looking at the Poh grandchildren living with Margaret Herrmann at 620 Michigan Street ---this really makes sense. Louis and Susan POH are living at 58 Mulberry St in 1880. I was in search of 375 Oak Street but did not find it where I thought it should have been . I will have to do another search some time for 375 Oak Street... it could be tucked in between two other streets somewhere else as they sometimes did . The enumerator may have went around the block taking the census so some streets stopped and picked back up again several sheets later.
Anyhow, I see that with Margaret Herrmann at 620 Michigan Street there was living: Caroline Poh age 24, dressmaker; Benjamin Poh- age 20; Brass finisher; and (Big Ed) Edward Poh age 17, moulder; and a boarder that had lived with the Herrmanns back in the 1860 Census - David Cooper - now age 68- a carpenter.
This explains why I could not find Louis Poh and why he is not buried with Catherine Poh at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
There are about 4 Pohs in the 1860 Buffalo City Directory for 1860 and so I go by the theory of chain migration... there seems to be connections here as they are all from Hesse Darmstadt. Anyhow, back to Louis Poh and this Susan. I think that Susan Poh, wife of Louis is somehow connected to the Hiemenz group buried at the United French and German Cemetery in Buffalo. In my searches - I collect odds and ends along the way and I have been gathering information on the Hiemenz line as I know it is related to one of the POH families in Bufalo. In 1875, there is a Nicholas Hiemenz, age 58 and wife Susan age 50 both Hessian, born in Bremen. Children: George age 33, Catherine age 19, * Susan age 16, Nicholas age 14, Henry age 11 and Joseph age 3 8/12. I think that this * Susan is the second wife of Louis POH.
But strange... Louis POH is not buried here with the Hiemenz family either. Anyhow, Just trying to put some pieces together.
