Robert,
If you have any info on the Poh's I would be grateful.
My dad is Charles George Poh and was born and raised in Cal. His father was George Kryll Poh also I believe born in Ca and died there a few years ago. (Hawthorne) His father was Charles Poh who died when my grandfather was very young.
I have looked in phone books etc and seen other Poh's. For instance there is a Thomas Poh close to where I live in Washington state.
Anyway any info would be a plus.
thanks
Pat

I haven't been able to trace back any further than my Dad's Gfather. I'm not sure where he was born.
I know that there were Poh's that came through Pennsylvania from Germany. There are records that show them in the Revolutionalry War, the war of 1812 and the Civil War.
Keep in touch...

POH family in Buffalo Erie County, NY

Hello,
I too am looking into the POH name. I have recently learned that my immigrant ancestor was Louis POH married to Catherine HERRMANN. He immigrated around 1840-50 to Buffalo, NY. HE worked in a Brass Foundry. He and his wife had about 8 children. Louis POH may have been related to another POH family that I have found in my research in Buffalo. Susannah POH and Philiphina POH are other names I have found in the Census records for 1870- 1875. They are all listed as being from Hesse Darmstadt. If that helps you all at all. I have not figured out a townland in that area yet for this family. My family is related through my great great Grandfather - Charles Herrmann who would have been a brother- in-law to Louis POH. I have found 3 POH additional family members buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery and am waiting in copies of the Wills of Benjamin Edward POH - sons of Louis POH and Catherine HERRMANN. Apparently by 1880 this couple had died leaving their children to be raised by Margaretha Schmidt HERRMANN. I do not know where this couple is buried or when they died. But I did find mention of another son of theirs Otto POH who died of scarlet fever at age of 6 in the 1875 Census records. Have not found any other church records yet other than a baptismal for Carolina POH another daughter of Louis POH and Catherine HERRMANN baptized at St. Louis RCC in Buffalo in either 1850 or 1851. She was listed as a dress maker age 23 in 1880 living with her siblings and grandmother at 630 Michigan St. Buffalo, NY. Seems POH is not a common name- just wondering if my info helps or if there is a connection. Glad to see POH researchers out there.

Shannon,
I'm sure there must be a relationship somewhere along the line.
My great grandfather was from Nebraska. He left there about 1900 or so and came to Cal. His father was George Poh. I haven't found a link further back yet, although I know that there were Poh's in Pennsylvania in the late 1700's..
I will keep looking. There are a few of us out there tracking Poh's.
thanks
Pat

POHs seem to have migrated

Yes, humm Gold Rush California - I have a William MANG - family member in the 1880s who moved to California - son of my immigrant William MANG who immigrated first to NYC about 1840 and then on to Buffalo, NY. I believe that the POH clann as well as my other German family members - Herrmanns and Mangs that are all collateral lines settled in East Buffalo where the names of the streets are types of woods or fruits. I have decided to continue to pursue the POH, HERRMANN, and MANG families of Buffalo as there seems to be much there... it is just a matter of finding the right Church records to surface this crowd. Happy New Year!
