Was your family from Russia? If so, do you know where?
Our family came from Volochisk. Our father changed
the family name to Pogash because he thought
it sounded more American. Do you know anything about
your family or family names? Do you know what business
they were in?

So far, we haven't heard of any of our immediate family coming from Hungary. Most of those we know of have come from Russia. So, sorry that this doesn't help much

Hi,

I just found this dicussion group & typed in my mother's family name. Pogash is the closest I got.

My mother's parents were from Slovenia, (part of Austria, then Yugoslavia). Their name was Pogacnik. It was naturalized to Pogatchnik, as it is pronounced. It is close enough in pronuniation to your name to make me think that Pogash would be a logical name change from Pogatchnik. What do you think?

Hi!! My great-grandmother was named Caroline (Karola) Pogacnik and she was born in Slovenia...came to America c. 1880's (??) ...went to Leadville, Colorado....married Louis Gimple, a coal miner.

Does any of this sound familiar and/or match your info in any way??

Thanks!!

Hi,

Does anyone of you have old photos from Leadville?

I have some unidentified photos from Leadville during the same period as you are discussing.

Would you be kind to check if you can find any match between your photos and my photos or you might have information about some of the persons on my photos? My unidentified photos are published at the Internet page
http://oldphotos.homeip.net/Photos.htm

I'll be grateful for every single clue that will help my research; my contact information will be found at the Internet page

Thanks!
