Hi, I'm looking for info on my great grandparents and great aunts and uncles. They lived in Canada. They had several children, Henry, Mary, Maria, John, George, Matilda, David, Peter (my grandfather) and Katherine. My grandfather lived in Calgary. I think some of his siblings did too.

Hi Nema,
They could be the same, but I'm not sure. Katherine was born October 7, 1902, but I don't know where. I'm not sure if she is still living or not.
The additional information I have on Katherine is that she married Fred Moore and had 2 children, Matilda and Alfred.
Good luck,
Brad

I can check with my dad, there is a whole bunch of Poffenroths that live(d) in Calgary, unfortunately I'm not related to many of them, I'll post a message if I find anything out.

Is Trista your sister?

Hi Terry,
I've been corresponding with a Trista Poffenroth who has a brother named Terry. I found a connection between our families. Just wondering if you're related to her.

No, not related to her. There are quite a few Poffenroth's in Calgary but I'm not related to very many of them. A few months ago my dad got something in the mail about how the Poffenroth's came to be in North America. Seem they came from Russia or something with an original last name of Pfaffenroth (I think). Are you related to any Poffenroth's?......Terry

Poffenroth's in Calgary

Hi Terry,
My mother was a Poffenroth. She grew up in Calgary. The Pfaffenroth's originated in Germany, then Andreas Pfaffenroth moved his family to Russia when Catherine the Great offered European's free land in the mid 1700's. They stayed mostly in a village called Yagodnaya Polyana in the Saratov region for about 5 generations before the Russians kicked them all out in the late 1800's and early 1900's. All the Pfaffenroth's/Poffenroth's in Canada and the USA are believed to be descendants of Andreas. My great grandfather, 3 of his brothers and a sister are believed to be the first Poffenroth's to settle in Alberta. They changed the spelling from Pfaffenroth to Poffenroth when they came to North America. I've got about 600 Pfaffenroth's/Poffenroth's in my database. Most are deceased. My mother left Calgary for California about 50 years ago so my information stops then. My grandmother and first cousins still live in Calgary, but they're not interested in genealogy. Other than that, I'm trying to locate living Poffenroth relatives in Alberta. I know they're there, I'm just not sure which ones are related. I'll be happy to share any information I have with you.

My grandfather Henry F. Poffenroth was born in Calgary and then moved to Spokane. He passed away in 1977. Is this the Henry you are looking for?

Hi Don,
No, your grandfather Henry F. Poffenroth is not the same as the one I'm looking for.
