Johann Georg was probably born in 1698 near Kirchahorn south of Mistelgau (East Franconia) the traditonal home of Pfaffenbergers. His wife,Anna Martha Schuck, daughter of Peter Schuck was born in the village of Erzweiler near Baumholder (West Franconia) probably in 1700 according to the birth of their first child, Johann Georg, 25 Feb. 1717.
Birth records showed the mother of five of his children was a Margaretha. Ship records show a Margaretha Kettle, age 19,and her family along with the Pfaffenberger family arriving in Philadelphia 1733. Since the "unknown" John Poffenberger of Washington Co.,MD was born shortly after they arrived, it is likely that she was also the mother of John. Records show this John was with the family at Tulpehocken. Records of Host Church at Tulpehocken and a visit with a church member located the site of the first plantation. Family members farmed that plantation until 1963. The old house and farm are now covered with vines.
Among the many families associated with the Pfaffenbergers at Tulpehocken were: Propst, Sherman (Schirman), Rigel, Woolfang, Rost, Stupp, Kantner, Zurban, etc. The 3rd Edition of "From Germany to Antietam" by Thomas Poffenberger (Xlibrus, 2009) based on recent trips to Germany, Maryland and Pennsyulvania completes the story of the first three generations.
