Re: Locating info for Poehls ancestors
Hi! I'm also looking into the Poehls ancestry. My grandmother, Vivian Viola Poehls was born in Sabin. She had three brothers and a sister, Argain, Calvin, Harold, and Ethel. Her father was Ernest Poehls, who married Mary Mickelson in Sabin, MN. Ernest's father was Chris (Christ) Poehls, and he and his wife, along with several children (Ernest being one of them) immigrated from Denmark and settled in Davenport, IA for a little while. Shortly after that, they moved again and found their home in Sabin. Can this be a link? I've been trying to find out more - such as definitive dates, so any information would be great!

Re: Locating info for Poehls ancestors
Just an update, Christ Poehls immigrated from Schleswig-Holstein in 1866. Katherine Elizabeth Krabbenhoft came over in 1867 or 1868. They married in 1868 in Scott County, Iowa. There they had several children, one of them being Ernest Poehls. When Ernest was 7, they moved to Sabin, MN and homesteaded there. I believe that some of Christ Poehls brothers or cousins immigrated also to Davenport, Iowa and stayed there. Names are John, Jacob, Heinrich and possible Frederick. I'm not sure of their relation to Chris - but all are from Schleswig-Holstein.
Chris and Katharine had a son named John Ernest - born in 1874 in Iowa. He moved with them to Sabin, MN and married Emma. John and Emma had the following children - Johnnie, Laura, Arnold, Edith, Alice, Josephine, Viola, Ewald, Edna and Beatrice. (according to th 1920 census)

Re: Locating info for Poehls ancestors
I am in the process of tracing the Poehls family also. I am the son of Clifford. Clifford was the son of Emil. Emil was the son of Christ. Ewald had a sister Viola she married a Thielman and lived in Page North Dakota until her death. I know of two children John Thielman and Janice Langdahl. John lives in the Fargo area. Janice still lives at Page husbands name is Allen. I hope this helps and I may be contacting you for some information in the future if that would be ok Thanks Marle

Re: Locating info for Poehls ancestors
According to my research Chris and Katherine Elizabeth (Krabbenhoft) Poehls had a daughter Minnie Poehls who married Claus Peter Lammers in Sabin, MN. Claus and Minnie are my great grandparents. I would love to know more about Minnie's family. I found an historical article from Clay County, MN that had interviews both with Claus Lammers and with Ernest Poehls.
Thanks

Re: Locating info for Poehls ancestors
Greetings, my name is Ernest pohles III, I am a Texan of 30 years of age,I have a bit of information that some may find interesting. This is a basic summarization of my Grandmothers memorial as witten by Charles L. "Chuck" Ainsworth. My Gradparents were Ernest & Olga (Kovar) Poehls.
The name Poehls, Pohls in German, has been around for at least several hundred years. Thought to be originated in modern day Schleswig-Holstein, the northern-most federal state (Bundesland) of present Germany, It is said that the name is a place-name. Today in Germany, just a few miles northwest of Lubeck are two villages, one is named Pohls and the other is Politz. Both of these villages were settledby Slavic tribes from the east, probably a thousand years ago or more. As people left Pohls, they were probably called so-adn-so from Pohls when the moved to a new village. Eventually, the "from" was dropped and just the name Pohls remained. Before the emigration of the last century there were at least 3 distinct groupings of Pohls families in Germany. The first group remained in northern Germany, around areas just north of Hamburg. The second group moved to the southeast after the Slavic peoples living in those areas fled. The germans were encouraged to settle there and farm the land. This area is in modern day Mecklenburg. The third group, in which I belong, moved even further to the southeast, settleing in the area of the Prignitz. The Prignitzis located in the federal state of Brandenburg, in a tight corner in the northwestof Province, bordering Mecklenburg to the north and northeast ans Saxony to the southeast. In modern day Germany, These three groups still exist according to Telephone book listings. The oldest of the Pohls clan are Hoff Pohls, Claud Pohls and several others who were living in the villages of Seddien, Crieb, Dalmien and Kltschke. These villages are all located in the vicinity of perleberg and the names come from a census taken in Priegnitz in 1687. My earliest, direct ancestor that can be traced is Joachim Pohls, who was a workman in Gro Woltersdorf. He was born in 1795 and is the father of Fredrich. There were some other Pohls living in Gro Woltersdorf at the same time period, namely Ernst Pohls who is believed to be brother to Joachim, since his son Johann was born in 1831, and another Johann Pohls who could be Joachim's brother as well. This is all I have on it all, I would be interested to learn more myself if anyone has anything else. It was a pleasure to speak to you all. (P.S. Please forgive me if I misspelled anything.)
