I am the granddaughter of Louis Martin Podboy and Glady Desneux Podboy. My grandfather imigrated from Europe in the early 1900's, originally settling in Wisconsin and later, in Chicago. He had two or three brothers(Jacob & ?) and one sister(Antionette?)...does anyone's family info mirror this?

Your Aunt, Beatrice Fuld, the Fitzgeralds in Waukegan, Il or the Jarcs in Waukegan would be able to help you find your heritage on the Podboy side of the family. Of course, your father would be the best source. He can be faxed at 813.643.6461.
Continued good health in 2004 and much happiness.Hope you have a family of your own and are enjoying success at FCCI Group. Love you so much and miss you.

I'm trying to determine if there is any connection between the IL and PA Podboys because some of the Waukegan Podboy ancestors came from the same town as my grandfather (Planina, Slovenia). He settled in Johnstown, PA but moved to Chicago in the early 1950s.
Anton & Mary Petkovsek/Petrovic Podboy supposedly had at least three sons: Anton (1880), Louis (1894) and a "Jack."
I know the younger Anton married Josephine Jerelle Cankar in 1926 and she gave birth to Antonette in 1927. (Josephine also had at least six children from two previous marriages)
Louis married Gladys Madeline Desneux about 1922 and they had two children: Beatrice about 1924 and Donald.
I've turned up nothing on "Jack" but he was mentioned in the younger Anton's obit as living in North Chicago in 1964. Could this mystery "Jack" actually be the Jacob Podboy (1883 or 1884) who was married to Mary Drabonick, father of Emil and Fred Podboy? Jacob was a widower when he died in Grand Junction, CO in 1971.

I am Louis and Glady's granddaughter. I recall my grandmother talking about Jacob, Mary and Emil. Louis ran a company in Chicago (Allied Tool & Die). Both my father, Donald and my aunt, Beatrice were born and raised in the Chicago area. I recall my grandmother talking about my grandfather's family originally living in Wisconsin when they first immigrated. The story goes that Anton abandoned Mary in Austria(Trieste). There were three older sons who immigrated prior to WWI to American first, settled in WI. Some time later Mary immigrated with Louis who was 6 at the time. Mary spoke only German(alleged refused to learn English) - Louis never had more than a 6th grade education yet managed to found/run a major manufacturing plant. Louis and Gladys retired to Florida in the mid-50's. Louis died in 1971, Gladys 1988. My father still resides in Florida. He and his wife had three children; Leslie(1965), Andrew(1968), and James(1976). Beatrice lives in Georgia with her daughter, Mary Fuld Tam. She has two granddaughters, Sarah and Colleen. Bea's son, Christopher lives in WA with his wife Paula and their two children.

To further clarify the younger Anton Podboy, Josephine was his second wife. His first wife was Betty (1886-1926) and the mother of sons Jack and Philip. Betty fell down some stairs and died a day or two later from a fractured spine. Anton married Josephine later that year.
The "Jack" mentioned in Anton's 1964 obit as living in North Chicago may have referred to his son and not his brother. In any case, I found no other record of either of the two Jacks or Philip.

Louis Podboy was my Mother's Father. My Mother's name was Baettrice and she passed away in 2005. Louis had to brother Anthony(Anton) and Franz. Both Anthony and Franz arrived in America in 1893.
I still have not been able to find a record of Mary or Louis entering this country in 1901. Although I know it did occur.
