Classification: Immigration
Surnames: Podrasky, Zemek, Kopecky, Venclowski
I am searching for Podrasky ancestors who came from Bohemia/Austria. John or Joseph Podrasky and Anna Kopecky are the beginning of the line that we have traced. Then John Podrasky the son of John or Joseph and Anna was born June 27, 1856 in Bohemia/Austria. John came to the US and was naturalized April 12, 1889. He married Catherine Zemek, also from Bohemia June 17, 1878. They lived in Chicago and had a son Joseph Podrasky who married Amelia Noah in 1904. Joseph was born Nov 6, 1879. That is all I know. Don't know when or how John Podrasky arrived to the US. If this is familiar to anyone, June Pody or Carl pease let me know. The Podrasky name has been shortened to Pody now. Deb

Just wanted to let you know of an intresting site in struthers ohio in regard to the podaski/podasky/podracky line....

I have found that 75 percent of struthers ohio was from austria/slovakia/polond. you may want to search there census records as they have them for the state county and city listed by surname....I have found Podasky.( is a realitive)..podaski....(my great-Uncle) and a podracky, Podolsky, and poracky. they have a site just for austrian/slovak roots with lists and lists of surnames for the immigrants who came to ohio for the mine work....they say 75% of the Austrian/slovack people came here....Intresting stuff for ANYONE searching this kind of heritage...they have an orginazation dedicated to the slovak decendents looking for their ancesters.....let me know what you come up with....happy hunting
