I am searching for info on the sur name Podrasky(i). We have Joseph and John Podraski's in my ancestry and they are from Bohemia, Austria. My ggggrandfather was either Joseph or John Podraski and his wife was Anna Kopecky. Don't know if they came to the US or not, but thier son John did becuase we have his naturalization paper. The son John Podrasky ended up in Chicago and was naturalized in 1889. Is it possible that your Podaskis were Podraskys once upon a time? I have found a lot of them but not yet a connection to mine. It is certainly possible that Podraskys landed in New York and some kept on going. Some spell it with an "i" and some with a "y".I still don't know what port my Podraskys used. Just food for thought. If there is anything you can share please e-mail me at Brsscpck2@aol.com Thanks for your time.

Could your ancestor's names have been shortened to Poda/Pody. We know that one Pody in our line states his name was originally Podrasky and was shortened because of entrance into US. Our Pody line originated outside the US, we have some entry papers. The oldest papers show Henrich Bode/Pode/Poda/Pody/Bodie to be a German employed by England to fight the colonists here. Just wondering about the names, I have some passenger and immigration lists with Podrasky on them.

Hi June, my Podrasky relatives did infact, shorten their name to Pody. They changed the name in 1946. So far the documents we have say they came from Bohemia, Austria, Czech. They probaly immigrated out of a port in Germany. If you have passenger lists with Podraskys on them I would love to have copies or of anything else you might have on Pody or Podraskys. If you could e-mail them to me or mail by postal service to me I would give you my adddress at your e-mail address if you can give it to me. I will also pay for copies. Thanks so much for answering. My e-mail address is: Brsscpck2@aol.com
Thanks, Deb

June, I found an e-mail from somebody else who must be one of your relaltives because they were asking about thier grandfather Joseph Podaski and they list the same names as you, Margaret Maureen, etc. Only she says the family came from Poland rather than Germany. Thier Joseph was also born in New York. I have also found Joseph and Anna Podraskys from Bohemia. Again my e-mail address is Brsscpck2@aol.com. I would love to talk more. Thanks Deb

Do any of these names sound familier?........Margaret-Bobby-Maureen- Suzanne?........thanks for your time.....
