Hello! Does anyone know anything about these people? Herman Poch & his wife, Clara Migiskie. My source of info for this is my great-grandfather's social security application. My g grandfather, Walter Herman Poch, was born in 1892 in Buffalo, NY. Again, that's taken from his application. I'm told that there might be some confusion about Clara's maiden name. I've heard it could be Wishcnofske, or some variation. If anyone has any info, no matter how significant, please let me know at drdestructo@hotmail.com! Thanks! I've been hitting brick walls with this surname. Thanks again! J.

I do have information on Clara Poch, nee clara Rosalia Wischnofske, born on October 10, 1859 in Prussia. father and mothers names were John Wischnofske and Wilhelmine Meyer Hoeft Wischnofske. Clara and Herman Poch were married in Rogers City, Mi. on August 3, 1879 I have a copy of their marraige certificate. Also a copy of Declaration of Intention to becomee a US citizen for Herman Poch. I am not sure but think his father and mother were August Poch and Caroline Poch, nee florip. Have more to share, but have to get it together, I am just new at this, but boy is it fun.... Clara Poch died as Clara Groening in Detroit, Mi. on June 8, 1935. That was her second or third husband, not sure. Herman Poch died according to what i have found on January 20, 1894, but have nothing to confirm that.

Hello Shirley! I hope you don't mind me butting in and saying hello. I've been trying to find out more info on Herman & Clara Poch. They are my great-great-grandparents. I have found out through other sources essentially what you have. If you don't mind me asking, where did you find the death date for Clara Poch? I have asked my Poch relatives, many still living in the Rogers City area, if they had any further info. You said you had some more info on the Pochs or the Wischnofskes (sp?)? I don't suppose I can compare notes with you, can I? If so, please e-mail me at: jeff@dialresults.com. Thanks! J.

Shirley, the information regarding Clara's parents posted on Ancestry.com hasn't been confirmed. I believe Clara is the sister of Hermine. Hermine's husband, August Hoeft, is the son of Wilhelmina Hoeft, Wischnofsky, Domke. Hermine's father, according to her death certificate, is John Wischnofsky, mother's first initial is "W". On August's death certificate it lists his mother's maiden name as Meyer. On August's mother's death certificate it's listed as Hoeft. In the 1870's John and Wilhelmine had a son die. This is where her first name appears. His name was Albert. The key to the fact that your information is from the posting on Ancestry.com is the fact that the family in Oregon dropped the y off the last name and replaced it with an "e" in the 1920's. We have a lot of information to share...

Hello again.. Family of Walter Poch Sr. Born Nov. 24, 1892. Walter Poch Sr's father was Herman Albert Gustav Poch (possibly Boecke in Prussia) This has not yet been confirmed but he was born on Aapril 19, 1869 in Pommerania, Prussia. Married a Clara Rosalia Wisnewski ( could be Clara Wischnofske) on Aaug. 3, 1879. I have the marraige cert. to prove this. in Rogers City, Mi. Clara was my GGrandmother They had children listed as : Rosalia Amalie Franciska Poch B/June 2, 1881 in Rogers City D/January 12, 1974 in Detroit Adele Poch B/March 9, 1883 (not sure where yet) D/Aug. 24, 1979 in Detroit, Mi. Married a Edward ( was told they called him Harry) Krohn (he was b/July 2, 1877 D/Sept. 15,1959 also in Detroit area) Walter Poch Sr. B/Nov.24, 1892 (not sure if it was Rogers City or Buffalo NY) Died in Rogers city on June 9, 1981, married to Anna Bradow?? Lillie Poch (my paternal grandmother) B/Oct. 26,1894,DAug.6, 1938 in Detroit, Mi. Wayne County, cannot find a death cert. on her, but have a memorial card from funeral home that states that info. She married Albert Walter Reiss in Detoit, Mi. and they had eight sons, my father Howard being the 1st. born. Howard lived with his grandmother Clara as he was growing up, so have some info on her. He remembers her haveing two sisters, one they called Minna and couldn't remember the other ones name. Clara supposedly married a Wilhelm (william) Groening , don't know where any William Davies came into the picture. There were also two children I assume were Wilhelms children named Irene Groening, and a boy named Charles Groening. In later years I remember Charles owned a Bait shop on the Detroit River and lived in it. He died on July 3, 1953, but have not found out for sure where these two come into the picture. Hope this is helpful, and would like to exchange any info you may have. I live in Hale, Mi. where do you live? Are you Walters Jrs. son Jeff? I guess it was your Aunt Gloria I spoke with a long time ago???

John, Thanks for inviting me to join the group looking up info on the Pochs, etc. I will be more than glad to share any info I have and would like to learn more. I have done a lot of research on records at the St. Johns Lutheran Church, where the records from old St. Peters Church in Detroit Mi. are kept. My husband and I spent several days looking thru books and have taken a lot of notes, but not sure how they all fit in. You said there may be Moltke Church records that the Pochs are in. Is that in Rogers City Area? Do you know anything more of how Herman Poch died or for sure where? I have a copy of a declaration of Intention for him to become a citizen of USA, and underneath is the same for an August Poch, who they say is his father? I am not sure of this, as I researched in the LDS Church near here and found info on a Herman Poch born in Prussia with father and mother listed as Wilhelm Franz Boecke (Poch) born abt 1840 in Pommerania Prussia with spouse of Charlotte Christine Wrasse b/abt 1842, They had 5 children 1st. born being Herman Albert Gustav Boeck (Poch) b/Aaaapril 19, 1863 married to Clara Wissnewski . Maybe you can help me on this.. Where do you live? We live in Hale, Mi. about 65 miles south of Rogers City and just off of M-65 Hwy. Thank you... Shirley

Hello Shirley!
My name is Jeff, but I'm not Walter jr.'s son. I'm Walter jr.'s grandson. I'd love to exchange info with you. I have a copy of Walter Herman Poch's SSN application. On it he says that his mom's maiden name was Migiskie. Does that make any sense to you? I've since contacted the same Gloria that you've corresponded with (apparently a while ago). She finally remembered that Clara did have a different maiden name. She remembered it as Wisnewski. Or Wischnofske, or something to that effect. Gloria also named her dad's sister, Rose, and Adele. She didn't mention anything about a Lillie.
I did find a lot more info about Walter Herman's wife, Anna. Turns out her full name is Hannah Louise Bredow. I have all kinds of pictures of Hannah. Not many of Walter Herman. Do you have any old pictures?
Jeff
Feel free to contact me for any further info! I'd love to share info!

Was Hermine born 1-25-1878? Do you think she could have gone by Minna? My G-G grandparents were John and Wilhenmine Wischnofsky. The family lived in Detroit and the name was changed to Senusky.
